Default Engine in but have mounting problems

My car is a 68 camaro and Im installing an LS1. I am using S&P conversion plates with Prothane poly motor mounts and SBC frame stands.

For some reason the motor wont bolt to the stands. I need about another 1/4" on the drivers side but it wont budge. Motor is as low as it can go but it hits the poly mount. DOH! also when I sort of have it in and I look underneath to install my ATS crossmember I see that my tranny is off to 1 side of the trans tunnel. Its very crooked and it should be right in the middle right? Is my subframe bolted on crooked? Are my mounts incompatible?

Thanks for the help guys. This is getting frustrating.

Your engine pads are probably not the correct model.

There are several different frame mounts for different original engine combinations, some are taller, some are offset to the passenger side. Call S&P and ask them which ones you need for their adapters. They are readily available once you know which ones you need.

Check out 67rsss' thread in the sticky of important threads... I recall that S&P told him to use a 70's 307 mount or something like that. Or call S&P.

BTW, are you using the steel backing plates that came with the poly mounts? You generally need to omit those for use with LS1 conversion swap plates.

The poly mounts are not going to work with the S&P aluminum plates. They are too thick, and will not allow you to set the engine down. 71 305 mounts (you will have to grind the ridges off the back if you get the anchor brand) will work, though you may still need to message the pedastal holes a little. The S&P plates look awesome, and are really well made, but next time we are just going to use thinner steel plates so we can avoid this problem!

Would it just be easier to buy some ATS plates and sell my S&P plates because I really want to use Poly mounts and not the rubber ones.

But then again will my S&P headers fit my ATS plates.... argggg

What about the motor/tranny being crooked? Do you guys think my subframe is missaligned?

thanks for the help you guys are awesome

flip the S&P plates to opposite sides (which puts the poly mounts upside-down) and you now have ATS-style plates

How croked are you talking? Is the tailshaft of the trans centered on the subframe?

I measured it out and my subframe alignment was off.
