Default anyone have this problem?

My top has pulled away from my back glass upwards. So when you look the back glass, you can actually see the top of the glass. Over the years its started to get worse, and now its starting to bug me. The top sags a little in the middle. But if i tighten it up and pull it towards the front, it would actually get worse. Has anyone else had to deal with this? Sorry no pics, if i have to i can get one.

Same here, that and the back window seperating... also some weird wear marks on the top is leading me to just replace the top.

I am actually surprised i am not the only one here. Glad someone knows what i am talking about without posting a pic. Mine has some weird marks on the top just above the rear glass also. I was thinking about painting it here soon, but wanted to address this problem before doing so. Under the vert maint. thread sticky, on the bottom there is a post talking about this. Something about some bar you can unbolt in the top and some staples. I went out and unbolted the bar, but the staples only held on a thin strip of material about 2" wide running the width of the top. It wouldnt tighten anything. Z28bryan02, you can fix the leak pretty easily with some black rtv. I used that weather stipping glue or something like that one time, and it didnt last long. After the rtv, its lasted over a year now. I will post a pic tomorrow for those who dont know exactly what i may be talking about. This really annoys me and i want to slove this

I just replaced the top when mine did that. Contemporary Corvette has used OEM tops for $250-400 all day everyday. I've gotten two there.

The only way to really fix it is to either buy a new top or try and glue the top back to the window. I've tried the gluing approach multiple times and have failed.

I'm ordering a new top Monday. The window and the top coming loose is just something that will eventually happen to all our verts.

I was getting ready to take pics of ours and make a post in here...

Exact same problem... annoying as hell. Me and another 'vert buddy were looking at it, and if you open the trunk, remove the panel that separates the cabin from the trunk, and feel up under that back ledge there seemed to be some screws. I'm going to investigate more but I'm hoping I can pull the top back some because that's all mine really needs.

Jeremy, take it to an upholstery shop...they should be able to repair the top for a small cost. I had some lifting on my new top and they used some really strong glue to put it back down and it still looks brand new.

Nick, that's just it though... I don't think it needs glued I think it needs stretched towards the back of the car.

If you will go by some weather striping glue from AutoZone, I think its in an orange tube, but its made for the weather striping around windshields. Put the top half way up and glue the top to the glass, then put the top down and leave it there for a few hours it will fix itself. At least that’s what I did, but I left my top down for a day. I think the tube cost $5

Hey keep us posted on that if you dont mind. I know I keep saying I am gonna take pics but it always slips my mind. Thats all mine really needs to is to be pulled to the back and not the front. Everything else is ok really.

That stuff is stong but I dont think that is really gonna work in my case. It did wonders on the back window separation at the top of the glass. I just dont see me pulling the top over the glass a 1/2 inch putting some black glue there and expecting it to hold. Its already about 1.5 in above the glass as it is. That would be a lot of force pulling on it.

If your top is pulling forward away from your rear window, it sounds like the listing has come loose from the rear bow. Let me see if I can explain this. I am not much of a wordsmith.

The bows are the pieces of metal that you can feel going across the car top between the front edge and the rear window. I think there are three of them about a foot apart each. The rear bow is the last one and is about six inches above the rear window. Your canvas top has pieces of material called listings that attach to these bows and hold the top down when you are at speed. The listings on the first two bows are glued to the bows and also clamped in place by attachments from your headliner. The listing on the rear bow is stapled in place on the bow. That rear listing should keep the rear of the top from pulling too far forward. Keep in mind that the canvas top is a separate piece from the rear window curtain. The window curtain is attached to the rear bow with a vinyl piece that slides into a groove on the bottom edge of the rear bow.

You may be able to fix it if the listing is not too far gone, but chances are that if it is pulling loose like that the listing is either ripped up or rotten. If anyone wants to give it a try, post here and I will type up some instructions. Glueing the canvas to the window as suggested above may work, but it would take some mega-strong glue to last.

Btw, I am speaking about convertible fbodys. That is the only type I have any knowledge of. And I only know this because I just replaced my top on my 96 TA a couple of weeks ago, so it is still fresh in my mind.

The ONLY permanent fix is Urethane windshield glue. Big chain brand name is going to be 3M Window-Weld. I just tried to fix it using something that was not urethane glue, and it didn't work well. Choke up the $15.00 for the urethane. It will never, ever let go. I used the stuff to repair a torn molding about 10 years ago on my '76, and it still looks like new. One caution to anyone using the urethane windshield glue: WEAR LATEX GLOVES. It doesn't come back off your hands once it tacks up without taking skin with it. Also, make sure you get it in the right spot the first time, because it ain't coming back off. The suggestion to leave the top loose for at least a day is also a good one.
