Default What are the NHRA rules for a rollbar?

I'm not clear on the rules or specs for the nhra on rollbars for convertibles, can someone clear it up for me? For example on a 11.50 can you have a bolt in cross bar behind the drivers seat? How about the side bars?

A removable cross bar is not NHRA legal for any class.

For convertible vehicles it is like this

13.49 or faster requires a 5pt bar
that means the hoop (with crossbar), 2 rear bars and a drivers side door bar.

I believe that is good to 9.99, then you need to have a 10 point cage.

You will also need a helmet (snell 2005 or newer), 5 point seat belt (not sure the limit that this is required) and if you want to run with the top down you need to have the wrist straps.

and I believe a fire jacket when you get in the 10's......not exactly sure though

I know that IHRA rules state that you have to have padding on the cage anywhere your helmet can come in contact with the cage. So depending on how hard they tech your car at your local track you may want to consider that as well. I padded mine, looks better IMO...

It depends on how hard your track techs.....my track never bothers me....I roll in with the top down, put it up when I race, and drop it again when I go home....

That's the only way to do it.

What good are the 4pts i see on Wolfe's site? Are those good in a t-top or hard top car or something? Like they need 4pt to go 11.49 or something like that? Just wondering

thought rules were 13.49 you need a 4pt in a vert then 12.0 you need the 6pt, once you hit 10.99 you need 10pt in a vert

i know roof cars 11.49 you need a 5pt and 9.99 need a 10pt

To the best of my knowledge...

13.49 and quicker 5 point bar - as stated above.

This will get you to 10.000

quicker than that? 10 point.

The rules also say that if you're fast enough for a bar, you must have a 5 point harness as well.

So, yeh, a stock vert could very likely need a bar.

Some tracks will allow for a hardtop - fiberglass or what ever. Like from Smoothline or Carravaggio. and you can run to 11.49 - same as a hardtop car.

So far, I've only been yelled at a couple times... Once for going 13.0 at 88mph on the brakes... lol

Sometimes at test and tune nights they will let you go - depends on the track. but for any type of competition, you will likely need a bar.

Covertibles do need a 10 point cage at 10.99 or 6.99 (1/8th) unlike a hardtop which doesn't need a 10 point until 9.99.
