Default Factory X-Brace?

Just a simple question - with subframe connectors, is the X-Brace that connects to the tranny crossmember really necissary? I know it's only purpose is to stiffen up a convertible's chassis but isn't that what the subframe connectors do too?

Default

If you had the diamond type it would probably be useless,
but it seems to be more of a "vibration snubber" than a brace
anyway. Too flimsy to brace anything serious.

Taking it out made the body a little more jiggly but aside from
that it's kind of a joke, probably just there for NVH.
