Mecum Auctions has a 30th Anniv Trans Am convertible with just 25,000 miles up for auction on April 4th in Houston.
It looks pretty nice but you start to wonder when you see some, "I don't care about originality" issues. Was the owner cheap or did he just get tired of the car? Maybe there were several owners?? Just by looking at the few photos (and they don't tell much of a story) I observed some things that bothered me and I'm sure will bother the 'purists' as well before laying out the big $$. The aftermarket battery can easily be replaced with a nice GM Delco. The tires don't look like the original brand either but again easily changed. Why would you put outside weights on these precious rims?? I wouldn't dream of doing that on a car like this. I don't even do it on any of my cars where the rims aren't even as close in value to those. The lack of a front plate cover in one of the photos (it's there in one photo though) is a bit worrisome. The passenger side door panel looks like it has the infamous crack too. You can't see the driver's side or any other possible problems. I believe this car could be affordable 'as is'. Looking forward to seeing the price. Despite the description saying the car is 'mint' I doubt it will bring the big $$. We'll see. HERE'S THE LINK:

I'm with ya. Mecum states that 'believed' miles stuff a lot on their cars. You would think a simple Carfax on a 'modern car' would be enough to confirm. I understand the statement on a car from the 80's and earlier, but the 90's on up should be pretty documented. I sure have enough paperwork showing inspections, repairs, etc.. on my '01 T/A even without a Carfax.

SOLD for $20,000 plus the buyer's premium of 6% which brings the total to $21,200 if my math is correct. That's serious money for this car IMO. When you can buy this 4,000 miles car (linked below) that is literally MINT for about $27,000 or $28,000 I think I know which one I would go for even though it isn't a 'vert. Interesting to follow these prices though.

Ok, I'll be really picky here. Not that it wouldn't be very easy to change. It states all original, but I can see a couple of mods. The front side marker lens and the shifter ****. Did anyone else notice that?

It's been about 4 months since I posted this and I'm surprised the links still work.
No, I didn't notice that but the car bothered me a bit as I mentioned above. I'm stunned that the 4,000 miles is still for sale on Autotrader after all these months. Just no demand at all, very minimal that's for sure. It's a shame. Some day...
