Default Didn't have a prayer

For those few that attend car shows, don't you hate when this happens? You end up next to the eventual 'Best of Show' winner. Didn't have a chance. A 1936 pre-war Mercedes 'vert. Oh well. 90 cars in attendance and some real quality. Probably would not have won a 'top 20' anyway. Here are a few photos (click to enlarge).

I've noticed that at car shows the older cars usually win more than the newer cars (90's and up). I prefer shows that have different classes so I have a fair chance.

Problem is, most of the votters swing the other way. I find if your not in the 25yr old or older crowd, they dont give you time of day most times. I mean lets face it, our cars are special to us but in the grand scheme of muscle cars, the crowd swings the other way. I can't tell you how many times I've heard; " how did that car get in here, thats a brand new car" although my car is 15 yrs old...FWIW, IMHO, YMMV!

oh i hear ya....hate it when you have 2 60's cars on either side of you and the old guys look and the one on your right....then walk past yours then look at the one on your left. I do get alot of older women late 40's- 50's who fall in love the the SS, and they say "Oh i could see myself in this one"

From a Google search:
Question: What Is 'YMMV'? What Does YMMV Mean?

Answer: "YMMV" is "your mileage may vary". It is used as a disclaimer that "this claim for results will be different for every person". It is commonly used when answering technical-type questions in online conversations. You will see this acronym both in uppercase YMMV and lowercase ymmv form, both meaning the same thing

Agree! Even with 25+ year old cars like my Aero. It's been severely overlooked at some shows. It's a really nice car too. Just got published in Old Cars Weekly recently after I submitted photos for a calendar. Here's a link if interested in mine or G-bodies: http://www.oldcarsweekly.com/car-of-the-week/car-week-1

Is that Mercedes a 540K? This past winter I saw one auction off for $7 million. I'm surprised that thing was even at a car show.

I'm 19 and i'd vote for an old car. Not because it looks better, considering how old it is, restoring one of those aren't exactly easy or cheap. I restore 67-69's mach 1's for a living and end up with $20k in restoring one alone and they weren't even that bad to begin with... The thing is, mustang parts are cheaper. I'm about to start on a 68 charger rt and with just the basics added up (not the small stuff), restoring it is at around $35-40k.

Sorry, I don't remember the details. It was indeed a very rare car and most likely a car worth well into the 6 figures. Give the guy credit for driving it. It rained on us later in the day too. He was fine with it. "Just water".

idahoz28, you would really like my friend in my local car club. He builds everything from scratch and just finished a '32 Ford T-bucket ( I think that's what they call them). Incredible machines you guys have. Other than oil changes and simple maintenance I don't have a clue on 'builds' but still appreciate them.

They are great fun...... but very expensive. The '32 I'm working on started from a $50.00 shell I found out in the woods while hunting. I have hand crafted most of the panels except the front cowl. The red '29 cost upwards of $100,000.00 even though we did 99% of the work ourselves (interior leather we farmed out)

The Streetrods I build are tons of fun.... but they usually sit while I drive one of my 'vert F-bodys.
