Valve assembly in trunk?

Question Valve assembly in trunk?
I was going through the trunk today and noticed a flap in the carpet, on the drivers side, and under it was some sort of valve assembly. What is it? TIA

I'm guessing that is a bypass valve, so the top can be taken up or down manually... if you lost electrical. Should be in the owner's manual.

Yup, or if you just want to disable the switch for valet, etc.

For those interested, here's a fuzzy picture of my pump(?) and valve. I removed the cover on the driver's side to get to the CD changer wires. The valve is that black T-handle on top of the brass fittings.

Yep, that's what I was asking about. I only saw the top of it and had no idea what is was for. I haven't dug out the manual to read about it yet.

so this valve is to shut of the top?......how would i open and close it manually?

I think I did read something about this in my owner's manual. I figure it's to bypass the hydraulics to the 'vert top operating cylinders. At that point, you should just be able to lift the top up or push it down by hand.

If you didn't bypass the hydraulics, you would not be able to move the top much without breaking something.

Somebody please actually read the manual, though!

Here's what my 2002 manual says...



Not much to say, but fairly clear. Maybe someday I'll try it. If anybody else does try it... let's us know if there are any surprises.
