Default Help! My conv. top don't work.

When I press the button to put the top down nothing happens if I wait a few seconds and press it again, then the top goes down. Today though, it doesn't do anything. I am wondering if it's the switch or is my motor bad? A new switch from chevy costs $37.00, and the guy said they usually don't go bad. I even looked at the connection where the switch is and it seems fine. Is there a fuse some where that may have gone bad? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

does it make a noise when you press the button? if not maybe it is a loose connection. If there is a noise at all please describe.

Check your hydraulic fluid in the reservoir, if its low put some in there.

there is a reservoir in the drivers side fender...in the trunk. Also check and see if you have air in your lines. Air in the lines are a bog cause of tops not working correctly.

After having my top off this weekend the hydraulic system is pretty simple just a pump, two lines and two Pistons, just trying to give you a word of incouragement. it seems like it maybe complicated but its a pretty simple setup. I'd follow dustins advice and also have a friend try the switch and see if you can see any binding or any problems.

I think the original recommended fluid was Dex III (ATF / T56 fluid), but I've read in several threads that GM changed the recommendation to "mineral oil" (avail from a pharmacy). I've yet to actually see the written GM recommendation, but when my fluid got low, I used mineral oil w/ no problems so far. Still gotta find that pesky leak though. Be careful running the motor too much when the fluid gets low, it'll burn up from what I've heard.

Make sure nothing is on top of that little access panel to the pump in the driver side trunk area. Also, verify that the brass **** inside that panel is fully open. If it is close then no fluid or not enough fluid is pumped.....and thus.....roofy no open!!!!
