i love'd listening to my exhaust(slp lm with cats and log manifolds) with the top down, usually sounded better then what was on the radio anyway... why would you complain about car noise? just get a quiter muffler.. thats the only noise thats more noticible in my car.. that and the wind, also doesnt bother me.. i agree on the top up , visibility is worthless out that back window.. but i dont try to drive in the rain so most of the time tops down anyway. (heater works good)lol...if snows out my cars not.. simple rule to myself. my car struggled for traction with bolt ons in light rain. but the hardtops dont have any better traction so they got to worry about that too. my dad convinced me to get the vert( i wanted t tops) but im glad i took his advice couldnt like the car more.

Like I've said before, the only thing negative about a convertible is that you've got to be selective where you pick your nose. Everyone can see.

You always hear about coupe owners wanting a convertible, but you never hear about convertible owners wanting a coupe. Which do you think is better?

How's the insurance on the 'verts vs. coupes? I'm going to talk to my insurance company, and ask them about it, but I'm just wondering what it did to others.

I'm probably the only one on the other side of the bench, i've driven verts, hard tops and t-tops, my personal preference for the f-body is the t-tops, i like the looks more (im not saying that there arent good looking verts its just a preference thing for me) and its a little quiter (not that its a concern to me but my wife thinks the car is loud enough w/ the t-tops off) also i bought my car when i was in the army and there was a huge isue with people vandalizing verts on base, i forget what chemical it was but some @ssholes would wipe something on the cloth and it would eat right through it. so in my opinion ifyour not worried about noise or someone vandalizing your car and you like the looks get a vert, if not get t-tops, but the hard top is out, its just not as much fun (unless your main reason is racing)
just my .02

mines not a TA but I def get stares having a vert. The convertible version of the TA's and firebirds is not a car that you see everyday on the street. I think ive seen maybe 3-4 since I bought my car last April. Have to love it to on those days when its in the 70's. I usually end up cranking up some Tom Petty and taking the long way home from work.

yeah i love the game to (obviously why its in my sig) what i liked is that after i got to the end you could still enjoy the gameplay.

but back on topic, i should cut off potential flameing, its not that i dont like verts, i just prefer them on certan vehicles (roadsters, ssr, clasic cars) the looks just dont do it for me on the firebirds, but its ok on the camaros, maybe its the front end that gets me?? who knows

i just leave the top down everywhere i go... weird thing about it is, nothing on the inside of the car is as expensive to replace as that damned top, and for the next "but what about." I just refuse to drive the Z in inclement weather

Default Ref the insurance

Yes, the insurance is MORE on convertibles if you have the 'comprehensive' coverage. I dropped my 'comprehensive' as it was approximately $400 extra per year. You will have to ask yourself if it is worth the risk. If out at night a lot, or no garage, I'd probably keep the coverage. Comprehensive also covers stolen wheels, all vandalism, and even hitting a deer. Just one incident can cover the insurance cost easily, but on the other hand if you have no problems with theft or vandalism, then after 5 years you have handed the insurance company an extra $2,000. Ouch! Remember that the statistics work in the insurance companies favor. They make billions of dollars a year. They take in WAY more than they pay out. Off topic but an excellent example: on NBC news last week they reported that insurance companies paid out over $36 billion dollars in hurricane losses in the state of FL during that one bad year yet still MADE billions! It's almost like betting in Vegas.

Actually, insurance companies make most of their money by investing the money they are holding. Even if claims equal premiums they will still make tons by investing. The missed opportunity to those insured adds up quick.

I never understood the visibility complaint w/ the top up. ALL convertables have visibility issues w/ the top up, nothing unique about the f-bod WRT that. Considering that visibility goes "to infinity and beyond" when the top is down, the few times I drive w/ the top up and my visibility is hindered is inconsequential.

Have you actually tried bringing it to a track? As I understand (I read myself in the ihra rulebook I think it was) that they eased up the roll cage rules for verts, and soon after I read it I went to LVD in NY and ran a bunch of 13.4's and nobody said a peep about my vert with no cage. I believe the old rule was 13.5 and the new rule is 11.5 if I remember right.

Anyway, back on topic, yeah a little noisier, but like all these guys say, what a blast to drive. Oh, and yeah, I'm 34, and daily drive mine except snow/salt, and put 40k miles in the last two years with a borla exh., and it's all well worth it, I love the car, love driving it. Just starting it get's my adrenaline pumping a little. Was originally shopping for a t-top, and so so so so so so so glad I held out for the vert....VERT FTW
