Convertibles
almost forget to mention that i enjoy the rarity of owning a convertible f-body. I see mustangs on the road 24/7 and even with mods they dont stand out or make me turn my head anymore, and it seems like half of the mustangs you see are verts. I maybe see 1-2 or fewer 4th gen f-bodies a week in normal driving, and hardly ever a convertible. At car shows you might have 1 vert for every 10 non.
My second car was a 73 Fiat Spyder
Then I went about 8 years without a vert.
Bought the 68 Olds Convt 5 years ago
and now own the 00 SS convt.
So I have owned 4 verts over the years and now currently own two at the same time

I have owned plenty of attention getters too; 1970 nova, black w/flames, 1980 c10 lowered (not popular in the 80's like today!) show truck w/a wild paint job, turbo 85 xr7 cougar and on and on...the vert draws a LOT of attention too, I think verts will be with me now on.

I really love this car. I had a '95 hardtop before this one - liked it, but there is nothing like a vert.
15 years ago I had an '85 Mustang GT vert. It was just before they started hanging all of the plastic add-ons on it to change the shape. I really liked that car. It was the last year of the carb before fuel injection. It was time for the carb to go though - I had the car for about 40K+ miles and had the carb rebuilt twice. The thing was as big as a football (except heavier and with more hoses
) Just too complicated to meet emissions.Oh yea, I sold it to a friend who promptly wrecked it.
Since I was a kid, I always dreamed about walking into a dealership and driving off in a rag-top, ram-air Pontiac (think '70 GTO), and after '72 thought I'd never live that dream. When the "Hungry" commercial for the '98 WS6 first ran in ~Feb of '98, I knew that my dream was once again a possibility. Now I just needed to make it happen. Went to a Pontiac dealership looking for a '98 WS6 'vert w/ a 6M and the salesman literally laughed at me, saying "you want to wait 11 months for it?? because that's how long the ONE we ever got took to get". I was pissed, I drove around the corner to look at the 5 or 6 Cobra 'verts sitting on Ford's lot, but could not find ONE f-bod V8 'vert ANYWHERE in NE Indiana. WTF?? But patience paid off, following a close call of being tempted by a NBM SS 'vert, by Sept '98 I located my dream car. Had to drive 25 mi to Decatur to get it, but I traded my '94 Z28 'vert and literally drove my '98 ram-air rag-top Pontiac WS6 off the showroom floor.
Now that I think about it, I haven't been without a 'vert since the late '80s, and twice owned 2 at a time. I LOVE my 'vert and drive it top-down whenever it's possible (but never in rain or in winter). IF I ever sell my WS6, you can bet it's replacement is going to have to be one bad *** rag-top.

The only negative is that the chasis is pretty flexible and I get a lot of cowl shake over sharp edged bumps compared to my previous '98 Z28 T-top. I think I'll weld on some SFCs pretty soon and see how that improves the chasis stiffness.
