Convertibles
How many different convertibles have you owned over the years & do you consider yourself a ROADSTER type a guy ? Are you shy about riding around town during the day with the top down ?
Owned a 99 Firebird convertible and now have a 98 T/A convertible. I love the feel of having the top down on the freeway and knowing that everyone is watching you with envious eyes as you enjoy the sun and weather while they are sucking AC with the windows up... I am not shy about having it down in the city just makes it easier to overhear ppl whispering "that car is sick". I wont own a sports car that isnt a convertible, in my opinion the two go together.
almost forget to mention that i enjoy the rarity of owning a convertible f-body. I see mustangs on the road 24/7 and even with mods they dont stand out or make me turn my head anymore, and it seems like half of the mustangs you see are verts. I maybe see 1-2 or fewer 4th gen f-bodies a week in normal driving, and hardly ever a convertible. At car shows you might have 1 vert for every 10 non.

My first car was a Toyoto FJ40 with a 283 under the hood
My second car was a 73 Fiat Spyder
Then I went about 8 years without a vert.
Bought the 68 Olds Convt 5 years ago
and now own the 00 SS convt.
So I have owned 4 verts over the years and now currently own two at the same time

I had a 1972 Chevelle vert and drove my sister's 91 RS vert. Now I own my 02 WS6 vert and I enjoy every minute of it! I pimp the top down whenever/where ever possible and the car peeps know it's a rare bird.
first vert period for me, but as stated above, when the top is down i get people asking me if they can borrow it to got to the club and get alot of looks, but with the top up only car guys look when i hum by. i love to burn somebody when my top is down though, i feel so cocky.

I have wanted one since I was 15. 31 years later I own one. Am I shy about riding around in town with my top down, Yes, but F* them, I paid to play, I am not concerned about those people. People need to be concerned about what makes them happy and not worry so much what everyone else thinks....IMHO.
I have owned plenty of attention getters too; 1970 nova, black w/flames, 1980 c10 lowered (not popular in the 80's like today!) show truck w/a wild paint job, turbo 85 xr7 cougar and on and on...the vert draws a LOT of attention too, I think verts will be with me now on.

I here ya ! After a stressful day at work I love to put the top down late , in the cool of the evening just as the sun is starting to set. Put on some cool custom made Cd's & kick back & cruise. This is as close to my Harley was at releasing all of the days stress in about twenty to thirty minutes of cruise time.Of course I useually have a big smile the entire time. And if I happen upon a stang, well the smile just gets bigger.
Why would anyone be shy about driving with the top down??
I really love this car. I had a '95 hardtop before this one - liked it, but there is nothing like a vert.
15 years ago I had an '85 Mustang GT vert. It was just before they started hanging all of the plastic add-ons on it to change the shape. I really liked that car. It was the last year of the carb before fuel injection. It was time for the carb to go though - I had the car for about 40K+ miles and had the carb rebuilt twice. The thing was as big as a football (except heavier and with more hoses
) Just too complicated to meet emissions.
Oh yea, I sold it to a friend who promptly wrecked it.

My first vert was a '70 Cutlass Supreme, Hugger Orange (not sure what Old's name for it was), black interior, black top, 350 2bbl / TH350. Purchased it in the late '80s (prior FL car) and drove it for a while, put in a new interior / carpet and it was looking sharp. However, wife at the time would get pissed when I wouldn't let her drive it in the winter so I got her a '92 LeBaron 'vert (red / black top / grey interior) 3.0 V6, and drove the Cutlass myself. So for a while I had 2 verts in the garage (also still had my '68 S coupe and a '76 455-4 T/A "project car" and a '77 Camaro LT beater). Sold the '70 vert before we divorced (whew!) and I got the LeBaron in the settlement. Once the winch was outta da house, I needed a real man's vert and got me a '94 Z28 vert 6M in '97 and later sold the LeBaron before the trans blew up (I knew it was just a matter of time), so again I had 2 verts in the garage for awhile.
Since I was a kid, I always dreamed about walking into a dealership and driving off in a rag-top, ram-air Pontiac (think '70 GTO), and after '72 thought I'd never live that dream. When the "Hungry" commercial for the '98 WS6 first ran in ~Feb of '98, I knew that my dream was once again a possibility. Now I just needed to make it happen. Went to a Pontiac dealership looking for a '98 WS6 'vert w/ a 6M and the salesman literally laughed at me, saying "you want to wait 11 months for it?? because that's how long the ONE we ever got took to get". I was pissed, I drove around the corner to look at the 5 or 6 Cobra 'verts sitting on Ford's lot, but could not find ONE f-bod V8 'vert ANYWHERE in NE Indiana. WTF?? But patience paid off, following a close call of being tempted by a NBM SS 'vert, by Sept '98 I located my dream car. Had to drive 25 mi to Decatur to get it, but I traded my '94 Z28 'vert and literally drove my '98 ram-air rag-top Pontiac WS6 off the showroom floor.
Now that I think about it, I haven't been without a 'vert since the late '80s, and twice owned 2 at a time. I LOVE my 'vert and drive it top-down whenever it's possible (but never in rain or in winter). IF I ever sell my WS6, you can bet it's replacement is going to have to be one bad *** rag-top.

I just bought my first ever vert earlier this year in March. A pristine '97 TA WS6 A4 with only 16,400 miles on the clock. The car sat in the garage of the original owner nearly its whole life. It's totally fun to drive around with the top down. I hate having to have the top up at all!
The only negative is that the chasis is pretty flexible and I get a lot of cowl shake over sharp edged bumps compared to my previous '98 Z28 T-top. I think I'll weld on some SFCs pretty soon and see how that improves the chasis stiffness.
