Default Window Rattle on Bumps when UP

Glad to see now that I have a 2000 SS vert I am dealing with the same problems all over again that I addressed in my totaled '96 Z28 vert . LCA bushings, window motors, window rattles, etc, etc.. Geeez, didn't GM learn anything as time passed??

Anyway - I had this problem in my '96 vert and I have it again in the 2000 - only worse here. How many of you guys get a rattle from the window(s) when you go over harsh bumps. I'm not talking about when the window is down - I mean when it is UP. It almost seems as if it is either smacking against the convertible top frame or maybe its rattling on the window up stops inside the door. Just letting the window drop a fraction of an inch cures it. It sounds the same as taking a piece of metal and tapping on the glass.

Anyone diagnose or cure this?

Yeah my 02 does it too. I think it is some of the power window excess wiring tapping against the glass or something inside the trim panel. Should be an easy fix with the trim panel off .

I've been through the window adjustment procedures. The problem is, I can't put my finger on exactly what and where the noise is caused by. The top frame? The mechanicals inside the door?

Without that - I can't adjust anything. I'm trying to figure out how to even diagnose it. Dropping the window a hare solves it - but that doesn't gain me anything.

Have any of you guys had your car since it was new? Did it do that on day 1?

I just changed these on mine so I am going to throw this out:

On the top of both doors there are two window "snubbers" or whatever you want to call them, they are held in place with a bolt and rest against the glass with felt pads, over time they brake off and the metal from the bracket hits the glass (and even scratches it! and tint!!) they are super cheap and very easy to overlook. If you need pics, let me know, I have some...good luck.

PS-From this effort I learned this: never close your door by pushing on the door glass, always push on the door it self....you would be surprised how many times we do this too!

Yea, I know what you are referring to. I adjusted those on my last car to address the rattle problem when the window it down, or partially down. I will check them.

It seem though, that when the window is up something else gets involved. I think if it was the pads, dropping the window just a tad would not help. Maybe I'm wrong.

What drives me nuts is I can't duplicate the noise by hand - the window seems very secure no matter what I check.

Mine used to do the same. Then one day the motor fell down into the door!! Stock rivets broke off. I bolted it back up and never had the problem since, noise that is. Maybe check all the rivets holding the motor?

Thought someone might pick this up at some point with an answer. Looks like some people have the same issue, nobody ever solved or diagnosed this huh?

No, no, no!

I can't accept that. I have been pretty successful at knocking out almost every noise in my last two cars - one at a time. It bothers me cause it isn't buried in the dash - its right there . I just can't figure out what on earth is doing it.

I guess I'm too crazy about stuff like this. I miss a lot of radio time driving and listening to noises trying to figure out the cause.

Same here, I have a inop driver side window and the window has dropped a bit. I still don't have all that vert noise. I think SFC's really help this alot, in fact I know they does.
