I would think you could move it anywhere you wanted to, all you would need to do is get is mounted solid, and get power and all the lines plumbed to it.
But I bet it would be easier and probably cheaper to get a sub box from JohnnyB. I am very happy with mine.
Yes, it fits in place of the plastic piece that is removable. It will only fit a set of 8s so when you get your subs don't skimp on quality, but I am very happy with the sound combined with the fact I really haven't lost any trunk space. I am running the factory head unit with the sub amp pulling signal from a speaker lead, so I figure when I do put a real head unit in the car, the sound will only get better.
He will also build the box to hold 4 8s, but the size of the box had just about the exact cubes the bostons called for, it is ported at the front into the passenger compartment, sounds really good with the top up, and decent with it down.

Need to put tunes in her, and keep the interior looking stock, and not wanting that classic auto radio crap... been there, done that. 
She is a single owner 65 Thunderbird Special Landau, real cruiser car, picked her up dirt cheap from the old guy, dropped her and added the wide whites, calling it good. She only has 62k miles. Got any ideas for a good sub box for a 65?

Sorry I don't but the 8's by boston are killer for Johnnys box, and I am only running them tapped into a high power lead on the stock head unit with a 500 watt amp, bet they will be really good if I ever get a real head unit in the car.
Cool T-Bird! My neighbor across the street owns a '64 or '65 (can't remember which year......but it looks just like yours). Is your's a vert / retractable too? Years ago I helped my neighbor get his (retractable hardtop) top working, I couldn't believe all the motors / relays / switches on that monster. I haven't seen him drive it for a few years, it sits in his garage. Which is where my Cutlass is sitting now w/ the trunk stuffed ready to move in a week. Drove it a few times this spring, but it needs front brakes and I've been too busy to work on it. Hoping to tackle it once we get settled into the new home. Good luck on the new top on the Olds, going w/ black, right?

Is your 68 a disc brake car? Yeah, going with a black stayfast cloth top with a glass back window. I will be happy to see the tan top go away. I will need to redo all the metal work, someone rattle canned it all and it looks awful, and need all new seals and felts. But when she is done, I will take it down and get the windows all limo tinted
