Default What would you do? C6 Z06 or C6?

Thank you to a certain mod over here :-) I've got a 05 C6 that I got for like 29 or 30K with 10K miles last year. It gets driven once a month. With just my current mods I might as well push it up to 50 mph since it gets all over the place in Comp mode and not much better with traction control fully on. I want 600 rwhp or so. I will need and aftermarket trans and clutch and rear probably. Going with a cam and D1 then a forged LS2. I can either do the Z06 conversion (at dealer cost by the dealer) or start all over looking for a steal on a 06 Z06 and start modding again.... which would you do and why??

Just sell your car and buy the C6Z. No amount of money in the world could make a C6 into a C6Z...it's never the same.

I think I'd just buy the Z06. You can find them for really good prices if you shop around.

I would do an 08+ LS3 based C5 over a ZO6. Much cheaper than a ZO6 and can make more power with just a few simple bolt ons.

If you just wanted to go fast, the LS2 + blower is more than capable of your goals. But it sounds like you really want a Z06. Why go to the effort of converting and not just buy one, unless the fixed roof is the deal killer.

The determinating factor for me would be if you CAN sell your car..... and what kind of loss you will take. Prices on Z06's have dropped and that means bad news for you selling your 2005. That would determine my choice.

Z06 is bad azz for sure, but you can make your C6 faster for less money. (Losing money on selling your car, buying the Z06 and modding it will cost more than just adding HP to your 2005).

2008 Z has the Tremec 6060 trans... early '06s had a weak 1/2 shaft design that was updated mid production.

Unless you MUST have a C6Z, I would keep the C6 IF the additional mods you need to add are less than the price differential when you sell vs. the C6Z purchase price.

Figure for Widebody kit, brake upgrade, tires and rims, and possibly tranny and diff. I realize there are a few other desired items on the C6Z, but I think those and a power adder covers it.

My vote goes towards a C6Z because of some of the afore mentioned reasons and also holding value better than a standard C6 if you decide to sell it.

Everyone has pointed out all the points that I have been considering. The more I think about it with what I would lose in selling my and then picking up a Z06 which only makes 40rwhp than mine I can do forged 19×11 in the rear and 18 in the front with a cam and D1. Well.... close at least. Besides I love the removable top. I wouldn't be happy with stock Z06 power anyway. My dad said he could get me an 09 Z06 for 63K, but I can't afford that. Nor can I afford an 08 C6 with the LS3. The more I think about it I could build a faster more unique vette with very little more than the trade up would cost me. Thank you all for the views, they did help. I think a Vengeance H/C/I with an LG hood and some CCW wheels are just what I need :-)

I've been struggling with the same questions. The prices on a slightly used Z06 are getting too difficult to ignore. A couple of weeks ago, I almost drove away with a 2008 Z06 that only had 3200 miles on it. It was a silver 2LZ with nav, and they were only asking $59K for it. I'd be driving it now if they didn't lowball my 2006 Coupe (only offered $30K for it when book trade-in is $36k+ on NADA). That, and I really want red, so I guess it wasn't meant to happen. I'm not in a hurry.

And that's why I'm struggling with modding my coupe. They lose value if they're modded, and I doubt I'll keep it more than another year or two at the most. I'll either be in a convertible or a Z06 in 2010.

I have an 05 Z51 and was struggling with the same questions. After looking around I found it was much cheaper to mod my car and it would be much much faster for a lot less. So I started ordering parts.

If you are keeping the C6 and considering rims, look into the C6Z replicas, get them powdercoated black if it works for you. Get the right offset and you can go 19X11r and 18X9.5f with stock fenders. With a 19X11r you can go 305/30 but I do not think anyone makes a 315/30, which would also work; I think you will want to go 265/35 front. The money you save vs. CCW (I like CCW, have them on my CTS-V, but if you are looking at alternative mods, consider all options) can get you a tune and a cam, or some used heads, etc...
If you go widebody, check out the 'other' forum, as always good deals on rims w/tires from C6Z owners who have upgraded.

Good luck, long live the C6, those C6Z guys are snobs---JFWY!!!

If I had to have a C6, it would be the Z06 or ZR1. Even an LS3 C6 isn't enough to tempt me. The base C6 just looks bland to me.
