Default Descreen the maf?

I've got a 2002 C5. All stock besides the 4" K&N cone filter that replaced the stock air box. Is it worth it to descreen the maf without a tune. What kind of gains can you expect if any? thanks

you wont notice any difference... Pop it out and put a dry shot in front of it then you will notice a big difference!

I would leave it in there or buy a SLP MAF.

Leave it in. That screen is there to reduce the turbulence in the air flow. It isn't enough of a restriction to warrant removing it and also acts as a safety net should something get past the air filter somehow. If you ever go to get it tuned by any reputable tuner he'll probably shake his head when he sees a de-screened MAF.

Mine has been descreened since 2001 with zero issues.

Tuned by MTI and EPP. And neither of them had any issues with it.

I'm not saying it'll definitely cause a problem. Just saying you won't gain anything by removing it. The screen was meant to straighten airflow so the sensor could get better readings.

So if that is the case how come C5 ZO6 didn't have them from the factory?

Take the screen out.

BTW...this has been talked to death for years here. Search and you'll find everything
you'll ever want to know about descreening the MAF.

...or he'll shake his head and ask WTF the screen is still doing there.
My tuner pulled mine off for me a long time ago. Trust me, he's reputable.

I refuse to argue about this but do you really think the OP is going to gain 1/2 of 1 rwhp from doing this? I am not knocking you guys that think it's a must, but for his application it's pointless. I can see it being a restriction/tuning biyatch with FI, hence my reason for going SD.

If you aren't messing with the tune, leave it alone. Very little gain if you are lucky and if it alters the reading a bit who knows if you gain or loose.

Without the tune, you will cause more harm than good. Even if you do pull it and tune the PCM for it, the difference will not be noticeable with the mods you currently have. And for the love of God, do not waste your money on the SLP MAF.

If your car is modded enough to see significant gains from jury-rigging your MAF sensor, you should be SD anyway.

Waste of time and energy, in my humble opinion.
