i would go with the c6 hands down, resale, new/better technology=quality!
the c5's were great, i had a pewter 2000 frc new in 00 and after some modding i was able to beat my friends 01 385hp z06. that was 10 years ago.
old body style is, well, old!

also, the bigger cube ls2 will respond much better to mods than the ls6 will,
as my sig might attest to.

hope this may help someone on the fence as we all need alittle nudge from time to time.

To bad the thread title is dealing with a 2005 C6 only though.

Originally I was looking at 03 and 04 Z06's. When I realized that I could get an 08 for 40k it was a no brainer for me. All the Z06's I looked at were low mileage cars that were selling for 36-38. For a couple thousand more I was getting a new caw with a full warranty and 26 more HP than the 03-04 Z06.

I think the C5 Z06 is a heck of a car and I'm guessing prices have dropped in the last year but at the time the new vette was the right move for me.

If it has to be an 05 or 03/04 Z06 I'd probably go Z06. On another forum there is a dealer selling a brand new 09 for 38k..

I think in the right hands and mods the C5Z06 is the quicker car over the C6, but with prices so low on both used and new C6's, I think its a no brainer to buy one, unless one likes the looks of the C5 better.

You can get a MINT '02-'04 ZO6 for 25K now.

I said you can add an aftermarket wide body kit even to a 2005 C6.

Too bad you missed that.

Didn't miss it, but adding a $5000 wide-body kit to make a car something it's not is kinda dumb IMO.

What is that supposed to mean? You're not building a Z06. Hell, adding a supercharger is making it something it's not. People have flared fenders on performance cars for decades. Why is the C6 any different? Even GM is doing it now with the Grand Sport. There is even a wide body conversion for the C5 Vette.

And flaring the rear is only about a $2000 option with paint. Not sure where you're getting $5K.

You totally missed my point.

Point being, 05 C6 > C5Z even in the looks department. My response was to another poster who said the C5 looked better, and I disagreed.

You can go back to sleep now.

I'm not a big C5 guy myself and actually since I just sold my C6 I will be a C6Z guy next but don't C5Z's have the lowest top end of all Vettes since 2001? I think they run slower than the C5 coupes due to excess drag/gearing. Something to consider since even a C6 coupe will turn 186 stock (bragging rights). Just more to debate really

LS2 and LS3's breath better as well, obviously

Actually the C6Z has the same drag as the C5Z but they still run 190+

You started talking about how a C6 ZO6 looked better which has nothing to do with the OP's thread topic. Guess you missed that.

Hell yeah a C6Z looks badass, but the topic was C5Z or '05 C6. The C6 base car looks weak IMO. And adding thousands of dollars in wide-body fenders to a near new car is kinda dumb IMO.

To each their own I guess.

I'm pretty sure you're right about the LS1 C5 having a higher top speed. I didn't know the drag coeff. was the same b/w C5Z and C6Z but the C6Z has better gearing for that higher top speed right? I mean even if the C5Z put down the same power as the C6Z wouldn't the C6Z still have a higher top speed? I wonder what a C5Z with around 450RWHP would top out at.

I just recently read the 2/05 Motor Trend where the C6Z has the body removed to see the chassis (I read it alot) and they simply mentioned that the drag went from .28 for the C6 coupe to .34 with the C6Z. I remember reading on CF that the Cd for a C5Z was .34 as well.

A C5Z with 450rwhp will have a lower topend than a C5 coupe with the same power. That shet bugs me for some reason. Same could possibly be said for the C6 vs C6Z if both have 550rwhp. Hmmmm

BTW, did you see this on CF? 2006 C6Z #11 w/59K for $35,500.....nice

Nice but its still a lot miles and adding a K&N tells me it might have hard street miles too even if never tracked.

Whats up man, I didn't even realize you were on tech too.

I would still take it, whatever goes bad, it's time to pull apart an LS7

Besides, Barry @ Airflow is 4 minutes from my house.

It will sell in no time here. We are much more laid back then CF, btw.

I'm impressed you actually read the policy about selling.
