Thanks,
Actually used a razor blade being VERY slow and gentle to not screw up the aluminum. After that I smoothed the stuff that wouldn't come off with some 800 grit sandpaper.

Tonight's update: In the middle of checking PTV - can I use my new cometics and not damage the gasket before bolting the heads down for good? I also got the oil pump ported tonight.

When I check PTV clearance I get one extra gasket from the dealer or kragens and swap it side-to-side

Do you have the arp head bolts? When I did it I didn't torque the heads, as the stock bolts are stretch-to-fit....just snugged them

Also, Ive been using a melling ls1 oil pump for 10k miles now....is there a write-up or proven process behind porting the ls6 pump? I don't think I have as much oil pressure with the melling as the stock ls6, but its still more oil pressure than any other engine Ive ever built

I don't have an extra cometic head gasket nor do I want one since they're so expensive. I've got my old ones that I pulled out along with some new GM MLS ones too but haven't opened those. I do have ARP head bolts as well but am using the stockers for checking PTV and taking them to about 50 ft-lbs. As for the pump there are a couple writeups floating around and I can't speak for measured flow improvements but I figured I would at least try it while I had the pump out.

Tonight's progress: 1/2 of the flycutting done (cut .025" which should bring me up to around 0.095" on the intake).

Saturday progress: all flycutting done and actually started reassembly!!! Timing cover and UD pulley are on, tomorrow heads go on. Crappy pic but it's from right before flycutting the passenger's side plus you can see the pulley on now. I was using an old 1/2" drive torque wrench to torque down the pulley and it busted at around 175-200 ft-lbs. I thought the head of the crank bolt had snapped off (scared the crap out of me). I've got a 4' long old boiler tube to use for leverage on the wrench so I was worried I put too much torque on it.

did you have to use a longer crank bolt to seat the pulley?

Yeah, I pulled it on with a longer bolt and then I was putting the final torque on the new ARP bolt when my torque wrench busted.

If the threads are clean and you used Loctite 242 you have it tight enough. I used a 1/2" drive for installing my pulley more than 5 times on my 98 Camaro and never a problem. Never did get it torqued down to the 220 or 240 recommended torque value.

Did AFR supply you a flow sheet with the heads? I know Doug just switched to TFS and I am just curious. Any plans for N20?

No, I bought the heads used from a guy locally. I don't plan on N2O but if I ever do I might go for a 75 or 100 shot.

Almost done...still waiting for the pushrods to get here tomorrow! All that's left is the pushrods, swaybar, and bolting the x-pipe back up to the collectors. Oh and filling the radiator and power steering fluid. The new CAI looks good but I hope it's not too much red under there with my red FRC's.

Thanks...Finally DONE! Fired right up and oil pressure came up after about 2 seconds. Stock tune even stayed alive on it's own while it warmed up. Through the stock Ti mufflers and ORX plus FLP LT's it sounds pretty tame but with a definite lope and it seems to wanna rock the car a little more than before. I have a feeling it's going to sound much better at WOT. Looks pretty stock unless you actually look at the front of the passenger's side head. I'm keeping it under 2K rpms until Jeff tunes it Fri morning then I can really let it rip!
