Probably depending on the options their about even but most curb weights show the C5 at about ~50lbs lighter.

I agree... C5Z is lighter. The C6s had a lot more safety requirements that pushed their weights higher. They'd be lighter if it wasn't for that.

the C5Z is lighter. Most of the weight difference is in the engine. 346 vs 427

I don't believe that is right. I'm pretty sure the LS7 with it's dry sump weighs the same as an LS6 with a wet sump.

The LS7 has forged titanium rods and and there's more boared out of the block. The heads are lighter from a more simple design. According to the crate motor shipping, they're 200KG with the crate. That puts them roughly around 440Lbs.

from the corvette museum website

2002 Z06-3118 pounds
2006 Z06-3130 pounds

The 04 commerative edition Z06 had the carbon fiber hood which takes off almost 11 pounds.

They are probably close, but the dry pump system does weigh more than a conventional wet sump does. I think the bulk of weight comes from the C5Z being a FRC, non hatch compared the the C6Z which has the hatch.
In the end they are both fantastic cars that you couldn't go wrong owning either one.

they are pretty close...guess it would come down to how much the driver weighs

It's really the safety equipment that makes them heavier. Yeah, it's got the hatch. But it's also got some carbon fiber body parts and it has a hydro-formed aluminum frame. It's a smaller car than the C5Z as well. If you strip the safety equipment from a C6Z, it becomes VERY light.

The LS7 just as a dry block without the dry sump will weigh much less than an LS6 that is dry. The dry sump will add another 50 Lbs with the pump, the reservoir, and the hoses.

One thing that COULD add more weight to the C6Z is the LT4 package (Leather wrapped interior). Aside from that, I don't see the motor being the added weight of the C6Z. All the components of the LS7 were made extremely light to reduce parasitic loss and we already know the block is all aluminum.

GM spent so much money trying to squeeze as much power as they could out of the LS7 while still keeping it emissions happy. We all know that with a cam they make 550RWHP easily. But that's because that motor is already a fantastic platform to begin with.
