I kinda agree - get what you can afford....
If your budget is low, buy a regular C5 and either mod it, or buy one that's already modded..... I liked the looks of the regular coupes a lot more than the FRC, so i got a coupe... I got a steal of a deal on mine, and i couldn't be happier with it... its a gorgeous car, i get tons of compliments (even from those Mustang guys), tons of mods all done by a reputable shop, great handling, great power (not as fast as my T/A, but o well) and I can certainly DD it in the summer.....

If we forget the performance, still I would pick a Corvette over the Camaros any day.
Theres nothing wrong with your Camaro but the Corvette is a legendary and a famous sports car brand and very widely known as an America's only sports car. Specially here in Europe. There have been the US sports car brands like Dodge Viper, Ford GT, Shelby Cobras and some others but they have all died along the way and none of them had the history like Corvette has.
Every time when the car magazines do their sports car tests, the name Corvette is mentioned on the same sentence with the famous euro brands like Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche even though Corvette doesn't quite belong to that group. Specially if we look at the prize. In Europe a new basic Corvette costs something about 100 000$ due to taxes and it is still the cheapest of the famous sports cars. But it is known as a famous and a legendary brand.

C5Z is a great car, but the interior still shares some things with your F-body. Buying a C6 will feel like you are truly getting a new car and the C6 is a much nicer machine than an F-Body. The LS3 is a great platform; a set of headers and a tune and you're at 410+ RWHP in a lighter car than your working girl. Then there's the C6Z. If you don't mind a fixed roof and can swing the payments, it will not disappoint. Add drag radials and you have a low 11s to high 10 second ride from the factory.

A corvette is a CORVETTE damn it C5 , C5Z , C6 , C6Z whichever you can afford..
I love F-bodies with all my heart , and I dont think I'll ever stop owning one , but when the time is right (hopefully this summer) , I'll grab any corvette I can afford at the time , while the F-bodies can have the same straight line performance , they arent going to handle or ride like a vette.. go for it !

I've owned a few F-body's and Still love the car,
But I'll always be a Corvette Junkie,
My C5 Z06 is the Best car I've ever ownederiod
And I like more today than the day I bought it.
It will be getting a 434 or 440ci Motor towards the end of the year tho

In the last ten years alone I've had three fourth gen F-Bodies a 96 Formula, 00 SS and 02 SS. All of those were low mileage immaculate one owner cars thatw were 100% stock. I also had a new 2005 Cobalt SS/SC that was traded for a new GTO in 2006. In november of 2007 I decided I wanted a Corvette and drove five hours to pick up exaclty what I wanted and drove home in a new arctic white 2007 C6 Z51 M6.
The good:
It's a fun car to drive and gets looks from everyone be it kids or adults. It's easy to tell that it was designed from the ground up to do exactly what it does. They handle great and highe speeds will feel like a highway drive in an F-Body. After having LS1's and a LS2 GTO I was amazed at what a lighter weight Vette can do with the same amounts of power.
The bad:
Don't for a second think that the term "bette"r applies to anything beyond performance. The build quality and fit and finish of a C5/C6 is no "bette"r than that of an F-Body or Cobalt for that matter. Driving one also requires a bit of re-learning where you can and can't go as some grades & bumps are hell in a Vette.
In the end I like my C6 but would've been just as happy in a G8 GXP or CTS-V. But since I prefered a coupe and wanted to remain a GM fan boy the Vette was my only real option.

Just picked up a 2002 C5 M6 coupe a few hours ago... literally
I must say, the gf and I went out to get dinner, and it is so much more refined, the ride quality is not night and day... its summer and winter. I love it! Gotta teach her how to drive it though, as I still can't do without the noise of the camaros. Vette is 100% stock, low low miles, which is cool. But I'm partial to my mullet cars, and the vette just seems more like something for a weekend joyride. Would DEFINATELY make a better DD I'm sure. Seats are more comfortable by far, back didn't hurt getting in or out (which always happens in the camaros). I must say, I'm pretty surprised at how different the two are. And as for the weight... oh yeah! The torque pull above 2k RPMs is much noticeably different between the two platforms. The vette definately "feels" faster. Me and her will line them up sometime soon... I hope

I've had two C5's and now a C6 , C5's were incredible , 0 problem rides that i would go back to in a NY minute, Love my C6 with its updated body style and comfort. I can drive it cross country and back with a grin that won't quite.

The weight savings makes a big difference, not to mention the 1999 - 2000 f-body was a little lower on power compared to the 2001-2002.
