Default New C5 owner got a question or two

Hello guys, been on the truck section for the longest, but finally bought my dream car. Got a 03 targa hatchback with A4. Now the car is fully loaded except in the performance area. Got the 2.73's and base suspension. I have only had the car for 4 days now, but absolutely love it. Yesterday I got a Z06 exhaust, a K&N intake, 160 thermostate, BMR fabrication sways, Bilstein shocks, and had the computer tuned by Combination Motorsports here in Vegas. The car feels more drivable now, with less pedal effort at all levels.

My thing is, now I have $400 bucks left, and will have about another $2000 that I am willing to spend on the car within the next 2 months. For bolt ons and what not, what is the next thing or few things that I should do to increase performance of the car, but maintain drivability? This is now also my daily driver, so I don't want any extreme modifications, like 4.10 gears that would absolutely kill my gas mileage.

I have thought of headers, but worry about having to retorque the bolts constantly, and I thought of getting the 3.15 or 3.42s, but worry about big drop offs of gas mileage.

Any help would be appreciated! Thank You!

I have never heard anyone complain of a serious gas milage drop from a gear change.

I would buy gears and a torque converter. Also get a good transmission cooler if you get a converter.

I'd agree with the torque converter an 3.15's or 3.42's. Gas mileage won't be affected as much as you'd think. Then if there was any money left, I'd suggest a tpis or simular style slip fit header.

Default Thanks guys

Hey thanks for the info, I am going to then get the 3.42's and a Precision industries torque converter with a 2800 stall speed! This will help it get out of the hole better I take it.

just pm me on the info please. I was thinking of staying with 3.15's to ensure gas mileage and low highway rpms, but a deal is a deal!!!!

Hey I would say a 3.42 and a 3200 stall and it does not affect driveability, I know a few C5 owers in town with that combo if you want to test drive it?

I would say ASP Underdrive Pulley and a set of Headers.

I have both on my Z06 and these Mods were great $ spent.

I have a set of BBK 1-3/4" Ceramic Coated Shorty Headers that I will let go cheap if you want them, I used them for six months and then had Longtubes installed along with my Camswap.

They look great and are worth 10-13 HP

P.M. me if interested,I can provide Pics if you like.

Also I know I have not posted here much however, I can supply references and I do have a Paypal Account.

Thanks, I already purchased the SLP ceramic longtubes for the car, and am having them installed on thursday. I met someone that has 3.42s on his auto, and he said he lost about one mile per gallon on gas mileage, and he said that at 80 on the freeway, his car runs 2350rpms. Mine now runs 1900 rpms at 80 with my 2.73's, but it is a dog out of the hole. With my mods so far, I just barely pull on my freinds 3.15 equiped Corvette, and I did not get the right intake in the mail, so it will be Thurday also for the intake. He has just the computer tuned on his, and the rest is stock right now. I just have the Z06 exhaust, ported throttle body, computer tune, and 160 thermostat!

I will check ebay also for the rear gears!

Thanks again.
