Default thinking about a vararm. opinions please

been looking into different air intake/filter systems and I'm leaning towards the vararam system. I've heard some people have had problems with carbon fiber lids not matching up in some cases, so I'm looking for peoples experiences with this product. is it worth the money? noticable difference while driving? would you buy one again? any and all opinions will be greatly appreciated. my car is currently stock A6.
TIA

Get it, you will be happy. If you're talking about the air bridge not lining up, stay with the stock one, it will line up just fine. Don't waste your money on the aftermarket ones, they don't do crap for performance. If your car is a daily driver, order it with the optional K&N filter not the foam one that comes with it.

I found out I can get one for $325 through one of the corvette websites and couldn't resist it. free shipping as well. should have it by the end of this week. won't be able to put it in for another week or so as I'll be working all weekend this week. is that optional filter a K&N item thats available at most auto part stores? got a P/N for it?
thanks for the reply.

I had a blackwing and switched to the vararam, from 40 mph, up it is
better than the blackwing, I don't have the carbon fiber top so I can't
comment on that, it is time consuming to install, about 4-5 hours.
Read the instrucs. Rain water is not a problem, just don't go thru
standing water that is as high as the fog lambs. It is worth the
money, hope this helps.

I pulled the lid on the stock airbox and made the same gains as an after market box.

If it is a non-Z06, pull the covers down by the foglights and let air in there, and you are set.

yer right!!
got it a coupla weeks ago and installed it myself. took about three hours to do the whole thing. drove the car afterwords and after a coupla hickups the computer recognized better airflow, and loved it. you can definately feel the difference, almost immediately.
I highly recommend it. if anyone else is thinking of upgrading their airfilter I would say get the vararam. stick your hand out the window at 60 or 80 mph and imagine that force pushing air into your engine. need I say more?
I got mine from exit28motorsports. $315.00 shipped. go for it.

I cant even believe rain is mentioned as an argument against the vararam. I drove through a midwest rain storm on the interstate, finally it got so bad that I had to pull over because I couldnt see the lines on the road. No problem.

When I first started working on cars, we used to pour water down the intake to help remove carbon. Unless you're fording a river you wont have any problems with water.

My issue with the vararam, and the reason I replaced it, is that the filter doesnt hardly filter, and is very difficult to make seal around the edges. Every time I removed it I found a fine layer of dust after the filter, and usually I could find a dirty spot on the edge where the air was passing around the outside of the filter.

I have the newer model, VR-B1, which is supposed to have addressed those sealing problems. but I will be keeping an eye on that. I must say that visually it looks like it seals quite well. but if it doesn't, you can count on my letting people in this and other forums knowing about it.
