No intake is going to throw a code. I persoanlly don't see the point in most air intakes as I made the same HP as the most expensive air intake witha stock airbox and the lid off it. YMMV...

I used the factory clamps. I simply removed the factory metal straps and replaced them with shorter one made from wire ties. This allows for consistent pressure to the filter frame.

Here Mc Rat's car. They just wrapped the ties around the box. I re-used the factory hardware to allow you to change the filter.

Hope this helps...

,On getting wet.

I went with the Blackwing myself. Everything from the factory usually has some sort of compromise built in. The Zip tie mod does seem to work well for many so its your choice. I believe the Blackwing to have more surface area for air to enter. My 2cent, so good luck.

For those of you wondering if the zip-tie mod works it does.I was apprehensive about having the open filter but I've never had a problem with it getting wet. It's a real improvement and the best part is the price.I did it a week after getting the car and never looked back.

You'll actually pick up more HP from a tune.I've done 3 stock Z06's and gained a minimum of 25rwhp.

What were the before and after dyno numbers? My car made 356-359 stock. With the zip tie mode it made 372RWHP. +25RWHP would put me @ almost 400RWHP. Did you do any other mod in conjunction with the tune? Most folks I have seen who have done tunes on stock cars have only seen a few HP... Nothing close to 25. Just curious.

I put the 'new style' vararam on my 99 C5 and noticed a difference almost immediatley in the SOTP, after the computer did the re-learn. I had the zip tie method on my stock air box before that, but the vararam system seemed to give it a little extra kick, especially on the freeway. haven't done a dyno. I would highly recommend it to to anyone, and it only takes about 3 hours to install.
also, never had an issue with water on the zip tie method, but I tend not to drive my car on rainy days.... a good seal can be made for your hood with 3/8"X1/2" nom. pipe insulation available at home depot for about $5.00. get the black stuff with the peal and stick option.

Damn, I just typed up this whole long spiel. As J-Rod stated, zip-tie is best bang for the buck. My friend and I, who owns a company and sells Vararams, among other systems, have done EXTENSIVE dyno and track testing. The MOST gain was with zip-tie method, others were negligable. Your money will be wisely spent on other items or a "tune". Good luck...

Ya the tune is no-prob. Nogo already said he would hook me up...It's just what C/A I want when he tunes it...
