Default rear end question?

i was wondering how much power will a stock rear end take in a c5 car. Also going mid to low 10's in a targa top car would i need to cage it or would i be able to stiffen it up enough with a backbone plate? As you can probably tell i dont know much about the cars other than the motors, so really any suggestions on what is good and what is bad about them would be very helpful

Most sanctioning bodies (i.e. NHRA) will require you to cage it up if capable of 10 s. You might as well back half the thing and run 4-link and a decent diff., that stock axle and suspension isn't going to get the job done with the kind of power it takes to run that quick.

I've run mid 10's in a H/C car. We've just broken the first rear in the car. I launch at 6600 and cut 1.42 60' times. There are cars that run mid to low 10's on the stock rear. The torque tube usually goes before the rear. Just make sure you have upgraded the shaft(s) in the rear.

In terms of suspension, check out http://www.dynotech-eng.com/

They are an EXCELLENT company, that I have had good dealings with! They make upgraded rearends, and other parts. I would get their differential brace, and their rearend setup. Those would be the most beneficial to keeping the rear in one piece. http://www.dynotech-eng.com/dte_c5_diff_strut.htm

J-Rod is correct the torque tube is also another weak link in these cars.

I have been doing 10's on the stock rear end for a couple of years with a A4.

i blew my DTE rear after 2 runs ever at the track with a hardended rear output shaft

M6 - manual 6 spd
a4 - automatic 4 speed

You will see m12 every once in awhile that is a Z06 m6 (it has a different set of gears inside lower 1st and 2nd but it is still a 6 speed)

None. The car is all stock as far as suspension goes. It now has a DTE brace and an LAPD tunnel plate, but suspension wise it is stock.

Like the other guys have said, you will need upgraded output shaft(s). Guys with the DTE brace, would you spend the money again on it?

yes i would in a heart beat i have one on my car ....thank you j-rod for telling me where to get it by the way.....but i think it stiffens everything up....

You will need a rollbar 5 or 6 point at 11.49. Roll cage 12 pionts, will be needed at 9.99
