They should run right with you. A stock non-Z06 c5 is usually faster because they are lighter weight, but they are also trickier to launch without spinning. The tires that GM puts on these cars are worse for traction than just about every other performance tire.

Then again, maybe you've been racing 2.73 A4 vettes

They are about the same speed. Its all hit and miss with the LS1 engine. Some got ringers, some got duds. Some have A4's, some have M6's. Some Vette guys may only rev to 5500 while some fbody guys may know a bit more about how high to take it. Etc...

I raced a friend this weekend...he had a 335rwhp'ish LS1 Fbody, I had 345rwhp ish C5, and from 30-130 I pulled about 4 car lengths....so with equal power and equal drivers, both sticks, same gearing, I'd give the win to the C5 by a car or two.

Well I know how the tractions things go... im sure if I was to line up with one from a dead stop right now my a$$ would be grass.... my car has began to spin horribly now..... but anyway I usually run vettes from a highway speed to about 125 or so.... i dont care to go any faster around here(bad roads and not good lengths on straights) I have tied into one 6 speed car going down the highway one night with my t-tops off and 3 people in the car and we ran close to about 120 and he started pulling away from me......I haven't seen another 6 speed vette since!!! besides a few Z06's but mostly old people that dont race have em.... I want a vette when I get out of school but I really don't know if I like them as much as my car..... Only time will tell!!!

All you need to do is drive a C5 to know if you'll like one. It's a totally different car than an f-body.

I have owned two lt1 fourth-gen firebirds in the past. One was definately quicker in a straight line than my C5, but I still love my C5 a lot more.

I cant wait to put my new cam in the C5 in the next months, it should make it a lot more enjoyable.

it would help if the other guy knew that you were racing him
I would suggest you go to the racetrack and race a C5.

I've run up agnist a few f-bod's. Usually on the Interstate so it's from 50, 60 and up. I "usually" pull away from them pretty well. From a stop light however it seems like the one willing to break the car to win pulls ahead. I don't do it offten, but taking it up to 63 or 6400 rpm's and banging into the next gear is scary.
Bottom line is they are both powerfull cars but don't even think about throwing in a bend or curve in the road. If thats the case C5 everytime.

IMHO

I raced a heads/cam/header/intake TA this weekend in my cat back and cold air C5 that dyno's 320RWHP. He initially jumped me by a car length, but by the top of third I had pulled him back and he had a fender on me. It's all about the driving.

I think they are duds ....... I would like to drive a c5 and just see what they are like....... a freind of mine has a 2001 red A4 c5 it is a nice car and I am trying to get him to let me drive it but I think he is scared I'll figure out where he has the button hid.....(he told me he had a kit and wont even let me know where the button is ... i think he knows i'll hit it when he isnt looking!!) Well I need to go ..... I am gunna go see if I can get behind the wheel of that vette

Thanks Neil...i would hope it would have to do something with my driving...but then again, it is an automatic..point and click. I think its more of where to set the shift points and rev limiter on the HPP3. The points are set at +4, +8, no tuning. The car shifts into 3rd gear at 108 mph.

Make sure the guy in the C5 knows your racing too. I've had a few fly-bys and it's usually kids in their Daddy's car. The best race I had was with about a 18 year old kid in a 99 SS and he ended up wrecking trying to slow down in time for a side street. I don't condone street racing, but this kid deserved to have his *** handed to him. Believe me, my last car was a 10 second 383 T-trim T/A and I sold that to get the vette. No comparison. The C5 is just a better car, and it even has a 200mph speedo

I was going to make fun of you for buying an automatic car with the 2.73s... until I saw the high 12 timeslip! That's damn good! Do you attribute that to the MTI ram air?

Josh S.

I don't know what track you go to but at desoto at the vette viper f-body shoot out, the slowest vette out there ran 13.20's and had s$#ty tires. Most of them were 11's and 12's including a 16 year old girl who ran 12.50 or so... Alot of people talk smack about the vette who have f-body cars and the only thing can talk about is the price, but what they don't seem to understand is the vette does more than go straight and looks better doing it. I think you will be happy with it. ps I like the f-body and we can all have fun ....

Vettes should have the upper hand to start with simply because of weight and aerodynamics. However driver error and "dud" motors will even the playing field.

I have personally NEVER lost to a Vette, but I have had a couple of 01's stay right next to me pretty much stock. My car makes 345+rwhp.

I've never raced one on the street.(C5)
But I've destroyed plenty at the track.
They usually run high 13's to high 12's.
I'm not talkin' ZR-1 or Z06.They usually run
a little better.(with a driver)
If the guys don't know how to drive 'em,they
run anywhere in the 13 second range.

A street race of the speeds you refer is just plain crazy. Coming from an era when street racing was king...and 427 Camaros and 426 Chryslers were all over I've seen more then I care to. Most of my friends are dead for one reason or another, but if you must race (like I love to) why not just hit a drag strip. The electronics and safety just take away all the smack talk.
