Need help taking off stock air box it seems tied down in front just cant locate it. Surely you dont have to remove the hood. Also do the cheaper air systems make as much HP? How much HP can I expect on a stock 01 coupe?

The top cover is on some pegs that are in the bumper in front.
Pull back toward the radiator to get it off.

Gordon, cheap, and performance don't usually equate to better.. you want cheap remove the lid and tie wrap the filter to the tray.. 10-12rwhp with no cost.. you picked the wrong car for cheap parts.. A Camaro would be more your speed for cheaper parts.. not to mention you didn't specify year and body style.. there is a difference for mods on dif years.. good luck!

I wouldnt use street results to know if a mod was worthwhile or not. I gained 3 tenths with the blackwing, having the same 2.15 60ft. Weather was a little better, but I suspect it was still worth .1-.2 on the drag strip.
It was my only mod the time i went 13.19 @ 109 with a 2.15 60ft.

Stock I went 13.89 @103.5 with a 2.15 60' I am also at a track known to run as much as 1/2 to a full second off most of the other tracks. I was hopping for a 13.5 now maybe with the Blackwing I will be there, but it dont feel like it.

After 2 LS1 SSs and a Cobra I think I may be past the Camaro for being my speed. I was just curious about the cheaper intakes and exhast. I dont feel the need to buy one of the $1200 catbacks, or one of the $650 intakes for 10hp.
I went with the Blackwing but as far as a seat of the pants notice it wasnt there. As a matter of fact my freinds 2002 WS6 put a extra car length on me with the blackwing over a stock lid.

The zip tie mod has been shown to be worth about the same HP as a Blackwing or other equivalent intake on the dyno. Just make sure you get a hood seal (weatherstripping) or you will suck water into the filter when it rains (or when you wash the car). I did this on the Z and have been running it now for about 2 months with no problems, and mine is a daily driver. Just from by butt-o-meter it definitely seems to pull harder on the top end.
