While I like the interior of the C6 better than the C5's, I much prefer the styling of the C5 over the C6. I cannot get past the Mazda-esque front end/headlamps of the C6.

Styling is one of those subjective things as we all know. Car makers try to appeal to everyone, and its kinda hard IMO for the vette which has such a strong following of "old-schoolers" so to speak who want the flip-headlights, quad taillights etc, then there's guys like me in the new-school and hopefull Vette owner crowd who love the C6 styling.
Between the two, I'd rather have the C5 Z06. For one reason - price. I cant afford a C6, nor a C6 Z06 so I'd get what I could afford. The C5 is by no means a bad vehicle in quality, IMO. Compared to latter generations the C5 is a god send (anyone who's over 6' and 200lbs and driven or owned a C4 then a C5 can attest). Both cars have a capability that the majority of the buying public could never really achieve, and both cars for the dollar are a steal compared to its competition. I dont think either is a bad choice but between the two, give me a Z06.

Stock vs. stock - the C5 Z06 is my choice.
I like the interior of the C6, but outside styling of the C5 Z06. As far as seat of the pants meter, the C5 Z06 feels much more raw (as stated above) and like a race car. Just my 2 cents worth. But what do I know....

I had an 'o1 Zo6 and just picked up my new C6 Tuesday. The C6 is a much more refined car all of the new features are amazing. I love being able to take the top out. The new C6 is much smoother and a better ride but as for performance it is a little weak. I know my ZO6 would dominate this car at the dragstrip and the ZO6 was definitely a tighter more raw sports car but I am extremely happy with the new Vette. As for the way the new headlights look, drive it at night and you won't care what they look like. I thought I was driving in the sunlight at night, my girlfriend was going to use the headlights instead of going tanning
! Bottom line is they are both great cars but they both have their own features and benefits and you need to decide what is important to you. I can deal with it being a little slower because I like the removable top, the MP3 Cd player, the push button start and the shifter is so much smoother etc. So go drive both and decide what you want, oh and by the way if you skip out on all the BS options on the C6 (Navigation, Seat Heaters) you can get them for just over $40,000.

there's a good film clip in the video's section with a C6 and Z06 racing here:

I love the Z06, but would prolly opt for the C6 just because of the newer technology and higher potential that's inherent with it. No doubt tho, a decent used Z06 would give you more bang for your buck. drive 'em both, then decide.
PS: wish I was making a decision like that.......

food for thought...
it took 3 years for them to figure out the 97 vette was under par. i myself being a c5 owner say stay away from a first year vette. i got the 98. go with the z, better yet find a z16 there's gotta be a couple layin around waitin to be sold.
