Default C5 Z06 v. C6?

Which one is the better performer? Does the C5 Z06 still have the edge of the C6's or are the C6's better than even the C5 Z06? Not trying to start a war here. Im hoping to get a car by ~May 08 and looking to hopefully get a Corvette. Just wondering which is the better way to go, the Z06 will likely be cheaper but the C6 will have newer goodies and such.

Thanks for replies....

For the money, I'd go with the C5 Z06. They are reasonable with the new C6's out! Easy to mod etc. But I'm hearing that the C6's with few bolt ons will really come alive. I've heard of the C6 making over 450rwhp with just a cam and some free mods (intake, exaust)......Just some food for thought!

They both perform very well. If you have a choice between the two, I would definitely recommend the C6.

I have driven a C5 Z06 and C6 Z51(6spd) back to back on a road course a few times. A Z06 accelerates faster to a point, but at the end of the straight the C6 would be up 10-15mph faster then the Z06. Z06 is still faster around a track because it can carry momentum better then the Z51. The C6 was more predictable, Z06 is raw. I prefer the Z06. Both were equally as comfortable to me in the long run.

At this point, I PLAN on modding pretty heavily anyways....including more cubes despite which I get....altho that will not be until the used warranty runs out etc. etc. Plus this decision won't be made for a few years anyways but I'm like a 9yr old girl who is told she is getting a pony for her bday....just couldn't wait to find out for myself Just hope I can still find one of either with reasonable miles and still in good condition

Thanks for your helps fellas.....keep the replies coming

In a head-to-head drag race (if that's what you're asking about here), a bone-stock C5 Z06 will crush a bone-stock C6 with equally talented drivers.

I have not driven the C6 on a road course but I do track my Z. There is no way that a C6 is 10-15mph faster at the end of the straight. The C5 Z has a much faster track time at the Ring driven by pros. The C6 might have a top speed of 18xmph but you will not see anything close to that on a road course.

You would be suprised, I was supriseed to. I agree, the C5 Z06 does carry its momentum much better then the C6 Z51. It was faster around the track.

Ha HA Ha !! That was my plan, but I ended up modding my Z06 a month after my new warranty started. I would get a C5 Zo6 and then maybe down the road get a used C6 Z06 in the future.
Hopefully my truck will last another ten years so I can pay off my current Z06 and get a newer Z06 in the future. Having two would be nice!

LOL, yea I hope the mod bug doesn't hit too early....

Maybe just CAI and exhaust....and maybe some headers....well, might as well do the cams and heads at that time too....probably easier to put it on when the engine is pulled....might as well do the shortblock then too....hmmm....supercharger would be easier then too....yea, sounds good.....wait......crap.....

What he said^ C5 Z06 is the higher performance car........if you're top speed racing it would take you a lot of room to catch the Z06, you better be on the salt flats and have a lot of *****.

honestly, how many people buy Corvettes because of lap times at a track?

Go test drive both. The C6 is a nicer car inside/out. The used Z06s are THE bang for the buck award, but if you aren't worried about the bucks then get the newer model.

One thing I plan to look closely at before moving to the new Z is reports that the steering feel for the C6 supposedly has less feed back for drivers. That means that performance driving feedback from the car is less with the C6 versus the C5 from what the mags say. If that is true there is no real way to fix that for those of us who drive our cars hard on the road courses. As for the debate on which car is better overall, I hope the C6 gets the nod over the C5 or else Chevy screwed up.

If your gonna mod the hell out of it.......I'd get the C5 Z06 and go to town on modding it. It'll be cheaper in the long run, plenty of performance parts on the market for them, and its still a Z06 (if you know what I mean)........ I think you'll be happier that way. Just my 2 cents
