Z06 Mods
hey guys I just bought my z06 about 3 weeks ago. I havent been beat yet, lol. There is always somethin faster though. Anyways I was wondering what I can do to it to get a little extra. If you know what I mean.
Congrats on the purchase I love mine. I've done the mods in the sig and it definately picked her up there is a video link in the NW section of it idling and reving up!
You have a pretty open ended question. IF you just want a little something then a Halltech stinger intake for 240 is probably a good start.. after that either a cam or headers (or both if you can) after that its wide open so you have to figure out a more specific goal to be able to help yah!
Congrats again what color combo did you get??

I really have no budget. If I want to do somethin to it bad enough then ill just save up and buy it. I was thinking about a twin turbo kit. It will put it in the 700's hp range. Ive seen videos of vettes with TT kits and they are amazing. By the way mine is elctron blue with black interior. Thats the only color combo I would buy and I found it about 40 miles away from my house. Lucky me! The TT kit is 8,500 bucks. I dont have that right now. I was looking at some different intakes yesterday. I saw some Haltechs. I saw one that uses the fog light spot up front for a ram air. I obviously dont have fog lights but have the mesh inserts. I def dont wanna take those out. You think it would get enough air through those? One more question. Im only eighten and have a Z06. Do you guys feel bad when you beat everything on the road with your stock car. And all these other cars have thousands of dollars in them? I do but they should have bought an LS6, LOL.
There are tons of mods. You need to set your goals and then work from there. Take a look at all of the sponsors sites-->
That twin turbo idea is awesome but keep in mind $8500 may sound good, but it will more or less turn out to be about $20,000 plus if you want to do it right.
Start small: intake, headers, ect.. and work from there

Another good option is a A&A SC kit with a stock Z06 it will be around 475rwhp and relatively safe option. Although at 18 I'd probably suggest the cam, headers, intake approach. You already have a tough car to handle on the street 800hp you'd be feathering the gas pedal all the time at 70mph trying to get the tires to stick. If you wanted some advice for a nice street setup from an old man I'd do this in your shoes:
Lg headers 1300-1700
FMS F13 cam and springs 800
Halltech intake 250
Tuning 400
Thats just approx prices you'd have a nice driving car with well over 400 to the wheels then I'd buy some Nitto RII tires and an Aussie clutch. If you wanted a little extra get a 100 shot for the big fish. Pretty much my setup with a bigger cam, at 18 I would not have minded a little lope

I was thinkin about the Vararam VR-2B Intake System. Its the one that uses the for lamp housings for the ram air. Also I keep seeing this ad about putting a resistor in your air intake tempeture sensor. Supposedly adds 20 horse. Heard anything on that?

Vararam good...resistor bad...
Also I have a almost new Kirbon short through shifter for sale. 120 shipped if your interested. I got a hurst as a gift and put it in, really they are about, although I think I liked the way the Kirban went into 3rd better just too lazy to take it all apart and swap it back
Yea I am from martinsville. Who are you? Kirban Shifter Huh. You got any pics of it email it to spyder925@hotmail.com, Ill check it out and let you know. Thanks.
Moved the thread to Corvette section since its not internal specific. As for mods.
First off you can do a basically free mod. The zip tie mod. On my 2002 it was worth 15RWHP and 11 lb/ft of Tq.
Stock Box assembly

Other than a slightly bigger opening, the box portion is the same. So, you don't need to buy a new Z06 intake. Any C5 intake will work just fine.
I used the factory clamps. I simply removed the factory metal straps and replaced them with shorter one made from wire ties. This allows for consistent pressure to the filter frame.

Here Mc Rat's car. They just wrapped the ties around the box. I re-used the factory hardware to allow you to change the filter.
Hope this helps...
Stock airbox lid
Now, as for other mods. If you want a turbo kit, thats cool. There is good info on them in the F/I section on Corvetteforum.
If you want H/C+ bolt ons. I'd look at LG headers, FAST90 with GM LS2 90MM TB, AFR 205's, Textralia clutch, AFR 224/228 cam, or an EDC custom cam, and possibly a gear in the car so I'd look into the rear end stuff from DTE...

sorry about the thread location. so whats up shaun? tryin to make the Z out run the Z06 huh? J/K. ANy other free mods you can think of let me know. I dont want to put a gear in it. I like the 30mpg. Its def not my daily driver but its not a 1/4 car either. I just want to make it a little faster. So you dont think I should go with the intake. Just take the lid of and do the zip tie deal. Anything else you can think of is appreciated.
Hey man I'm a younger fellow as well (19) and I just got a 2004 Z06 with 8000 miles on it Black on Black about 3 weeks ago. I have Procharged Silverado but since I got the Vette it has alot more potential. I want to start my bolt-on's to I heard a good Intake Haltech or Vararam and Longtubes with a X-pipe really brings these cars to life. What can some of yall older fellows j/k suggest to me to bring my Z to life as well. Thanks for the help.
My Z06 withthe zip tie mod made just as much power as another car with the most expensive "intake" out there.
As for headers, there is only one choice IMHO LGM.
The car has a 3.42s. A gear wakes the car up ALOT. Keep in mind going to a 4.10 only raises the RPM in 6th gear by 900 or so RPM. The drop of a smaller change (like a 3.73 or a 3.90 is much less).
The resistor stuff is garbage. Tuning on a stock Z06 is pretty good as is. 6-10 HP (maybe) from a full dyno tune if you've made no mods. Once you mod the car (like headers) a tune is a must. I recommend getting a copy of HPT and learning to do it for yourself.

yea, I didnt like the resitor idea. I would like to put a full exhaust on it. Im gonna do the airbox mod. Other than that I really cant think of to much. It handles great. It hooks up exceptionally well. Im def gonna put ceramic pads on it just because I have to vlean the wheels every five miles. You cant have a corvette and not keep it clean. Any other pads you guys think I should put on it (that wont leave excessive amounts of brake dust). Oh and how much trouble is it to put that shifter on. Ive done it before but not with the transaxle and everything. How about a throttle body?
