Default Help with Head/Cam Mods ...

I would like as many suggestions as I can get on further modifing my '04 Z06. Currently I have an MTI G1 cam with Kooks headers with hi-flow cats. Unfortunately the power isn't there and I want more. My question is ... what is the best heads/cam set up that will not only generate the most power, but be relatively safe on my daily driver. Thanks in advance guys!

AFR's and a cam (around the same size as you have now, why go smaller?) that matches the characteristics of the heads. Then it's on to the smaller things... Electric Water Pump, FAST 90/90, Cutout, ASP pulley, etc.

... All of this, assuming you want to stay N/A and not go the N20 route.

SCEMO, I see that you live in Houston and that you have a MTI G1 cam. Personally, I would recommend going by or calling MTI in Houston for a nice package deal. After long and careful research I chose MTI to work on both of my LSX powered cars and I would not go anywhere else. MTI has great parts, great people, and great service. They have a newer cam profile out that will net better gains than your current G1 and their heads are top notch along with their head/cam deals.

As far as other mods I would suggest a Vararam or MTI intake, high-flow airbridge, FAST 90/90 setup or just get a P/P TB, BB Triflo or Corsa Catback, and 4.10 gears w/ hardened output shafts. You already have a really nice set of headers and high-flow cats. Oh and a good quality dyno-tune from MTI. Good luck and I hope I helped some.

If you're not happy now with the current Cam and Exhaust setup, I doubt you'll be happy with a little bit better cam and heads. I would guess now you're pushing 400-420 rwhp and better heads/cam may only net you ~30-40rwhp...with a good tune.

I'm just trying to analyze your situation as it doesn't sound like you may be happy with another 30 - 40 at the wheels...and that's pushing it. You may have to go juice or hairdryer to get that power rush you may be seeking.

I guess a better place to start is: what power level do you think you'll be happy with?

...then go from there.
