Unhappy why do C5's put down less power?

i don't get why C5's put down less power, on the dyno, than LS1 F-bodies stock for stock or with minor bolt-ons? i mean is it in the tune, that they get from the factory and if thats true, than why would GM do this to C5's?

yep, the drivetrain is less efficient. That independent rear has two driveshafts to turn vs two simple solid axles on a f-body rearend.

The two before me are correct. I noticed that when I put my 408ci in my current C5.

Its all weird, I know that when I modded my old C5 stock was like 310rwhp. With heads and cam it was like 380rwhp. A similar setup in other cars was getting well up there around 400rwhp. Then I get my current C5 did not dyno before the procharger, but a friend of mine with a TA has 460rwhp with a cam and heads and a better tune. Mine with a crappy tune is 488rwhp and everything else is completely stock minus the clutch (with more left in it). I still have yet to figure that out. But over all our IRS sucks up alot of power. oh well. The numbers do not do much for me its how it performs on the track. And I am definitly not disapointed.

thanks for all the info guys, i really appreciate it. damn that independent rear sucks , o well at least thats one of the reasons why vette's handle better than F-bodies. so basically its just that and not that they detune vette's?

Thing about it, you'll make it back up in weight savings.

The C5 weighs about 300lbs. less than an 4th Gen FBody. Of course, handles way better than a TA on the twisties, too. I was real disappointed with my C5, until the TMS was deleted. Plus, seems like with the correct mods, along with correct tuning the C5 is real perf mod receptive.

I traded in my 2002 NHRA SE Trans Am for my current '01 C5 Coupe. Although, the TA was a nice ride I have no regrets & love my MagRedC5.

BTW, nice color C5 of your's.

I think it is all subjective...When I dyno'd my '00 FRC stock, it put down 307 rwhp (Mustang Dyno)...Stock F-bodies were only doing 280~290 rwhp stock on the same dyno...

Peace...Gman

The Torque Management System [TMS] retards timing when certain mathematical conditions are met, i.e. WOT shifts. So, it retards timing when it forsees engine torque raising above the "safety" parameter set in the PCM, which occurs when the engine is at high RPMs and the PCM has just commanded a shift.

There are three performance reducing systems on the C5;

1. Active Handling [AHS]
2. Traction control [TCS]
3. Torque management. [TMS]

Each unique, having it's own specific job to perform. IMHO, the AHS is an outstanding C5 feature, which I rarely disengage. I will hold "the button" for 5 seconds to engage the Competition mode, which disengages the TCS, yet AHS remains engaged. My TMS has been deleted via LS1 Edit.

There are two types of torque management systems, one for the engine and one for the transmission. For the trans it is set at 350 lbs of torque, on an auto, it is very noticable when you shift or under high acceleration. If you change it, many feel it is good to keep a degree of TM for longevity of the trans. Moving it up to 450 on a stock engine is a common solution. With more HP/TQ mods other changes should occur including beefing up the trans with shift kits, billit accumulators, etc. and moving the TM to a higher TQ setting. TM on the 6 speed is less noticable and most do not bother with it. The engine TM is another safety item in the PCM and often is not raised unless you go with boosted/NI systems.
