Default The future of GM High Performance

Like all the other die hard GM fans on this site I think that the new ZO6 Corvette is simplely the best. It is a world class supercar for the masses, and offer the best performance for the money in anybody's book. It uses top end parts that GM has to offer ( Ti connecting rods, dry sump oil systems, 427 C6-R motor). But does anyone ever thought about how GM is going top this on the next ZO6 Corvette? The current ZO6 is already on the edge being a reachable Super Car for the GM fans. But if GM is going to come out with another ZO6 5 or 6 years down the road its going to have some very big shoes to fill. If next ZO6 is going to have 100 more HP and a Bigger motor (like the current one VS the 04 ZO6) what kind of motor is it going to be, and most importantly How Much. It is said that the current ZO6 closely resimbols the C6-R and CLOSELY they are. As unwillingly as Im to think about this, but I think that by introducing the new ZO6 with so much to offer that GM has put it self at the top of the bottle neck for potential for the next generation of ZO6 Corvettes. Please post up your thoghts on this, and let the flaming begain............................................ .......

You can always upgrade the package...the LS7 has not even been tapped by those of us that just can't leave anything alone..with just a cam, LT's, no cats, good exhaust system, and a custom tune this engine will make 625HP at the crank all day long..technology does not stand still..the next Z06 will be even more outragious than this one...we will have the new F Body replacement in a couple of years for those of us that not not want to spend the large bucks that the new Z car commands..so I see a lot to be excited about in the next couple of years for the GM faithful..

But what you have listed is all after market stuff. My concern is for the factory monster that GM is going to come up with next.

Do you honestly beleive that thay can't build a faster more advanced car than the new Z???...come on now pinch yourself and wake up..you have drifted off on us...we demanded that the next Z06 would be better than the last and it was..the next will be too...Dave Hill already said that there will be faster Corvettes in the future...if we can do it .. it is pretty obvious that Chevy can...they know that there is a ready and willing to buy market for the cars...

Yes, we can make ours faster. Mine will kick a 06 Z06 butt. No one has to pay to repair mine if something fails but me though. EVERYONE can build a car faster than the new Z06. Most of the big shops out thare are doing it now.

To make them fast, some companies ae charging up to $50 just for the motors. A big advantage the new Z06 is they weigh alot less.

I expect the next wave of hotrod Vettes to be some type of FI.. Much easier to make big numbers that way!!

GM will just see what the aftermarket does, and use that combined with engineering research to build a better, faster car. I doubt you will see a much faster car, there is a limit to what they can reasonably sell as a street car. But I'd bet they'll figure a way with DoD and valve timing to make a 500hp V8 engine that can make 35mpg in a 3500lb car and pass future emissions.

Or they'll just offer the current engine package with forced induction...

Well, I for one would think that 5 or 6 years from now would be a good time for GM to end the Corvette Legend. End the legend while it's at its top, get out while it's still an Icon and forever be remembered as one Bad-A$$ car!

Maybe I'm too tragic, but i'd hate to see the vette fall from the top. I love vettes, but sometimes you have to move on. Create another legend and let the hero die in all of its glory and battles won!

I understand all your points. But listen to your selfs, and read my first post correctly. I did not say that GM can't make anything faster, but I doubt that GM can make anything faster than the current ZO6 and still keep the price down to earth.

What do you mean keep the price down to earth? The 06 with the ls7 and all options is like $88,000 thats prety expansive. You can build a lighter car with the ls7 powering it for a lot less

I don’t agree that GM should end the Vette while it’s on top. They just need to make sure it stays on top.

As a matter of fact what you propose has already occurred. Remember the ’73 to ’82 Vettes? They were pure crap! I believe that they were down to 160 horsepower during this era. With the introduction of the C4 the Vette began to rise from the ashes. When the C5 was introduced it was better in every way performance wise than any Vette that came before it.

Should GM have quit producing Vettes in 1969? I’ll bet at the time people wondered how they would ever be able to top the L88. It took a while, but they did.

I would not worry about GM’s ability to exceed the standards set by the 06 Z06.

In two years you will see a Corvette Supercar, limited production, twin turbo, 7L, 2800 lb, and heavy use of carbon fiber. Car will be upwards of $100K with over 700 hp. They look at a 1000 car/market and 25000 profit per car as a good niche market. Time will tell....

I hope your next post has more substance than this one...you don't kill an American icon... ...think about your next post before putting fingers to the keyboard..this is not a movie or a play...the tragedy would be to stop building the Corvette..

The current packaged Z06 is a pretty tough formula to beat, considering the price and performance. But GM will likely find ways to keep on top. I doubt they will ever drop the Corvette either. IMO it's America's sports car and a true icon and it will remain such.

What about the Bluedevil that is testing at Nueremburg(sp)? It's basically a z-06 with an eaton blower on it. I heard it will be offered along side the current z06 as the "ultra-performance" 'Vette. I bet GM will jump on the forced induction bandwagon like Ford has been doing. I hope it happens soon. A factory 'blown Camaro SS.

Even though this has already been brought up, I thought I would say it again in a different way.

Compair the 53 to the L-88 corvettes
the L-88s to the ZR-1s
The ZR-1s to the C5 Z06
C5 Z06 to the C6 Z06

Do you really think we have reached the technological plateau? Of course not! I can only imagine what Corvettes will be like in 2053.

Also, What are you THINKING? Never say you think they should kill a Legend.

well maybe the 88k price tag he seen was an add on from the dealer for market availability. i seen that when I was out looking for a car about 2 years ago. b/c there are only so many to go around. and there are more people than cars to go around. so they add on 15k for market availability.

That car WAS NOT A BLUE DEVIL..it was the Le Mans Blue Z06 that Jan Magnuson drove to the famous 7.42.9 second lap time...there was no blue devil being tested at "the ring"..the blue devil is not something that I would hold my breath waiting for any time soon... ..if ford built a better motor thay would not need to use forced induction on everthing that they build.. ..case in point the LS series engines..ie the title of this forum..

Don't wait on the super charged Camaro either..if the "engineering excersize" (F body replacement) that will be at the Detroit Auto Show in Jaunary ever comes to production you can bet your hard earned money it will not be a forced induction motor in it..GM is not going to build a car to upstage the Corvette..after all it is their halo vehicle...I would be very happy with an LS2 powered rear wheel drive sport coup..something to fight the rustang with..ford will sell 200,000+ of them this year...they are like ants.. they are everywhere..

I think you got all I tried to say wrong. I DON'T want GM to end the corvette, no way! But I'd find it harder to see Gm make a bad version or the corvette after the new Z06 than to see it close the production line. But hey, if the make it better hurray, if not....

And thanks for the warm welcome by the way

When the 2020 Z06 gets here you will look back at this an laugh that you actually thought this is as far as it could go.
