Default LT5 Vs LS6

New to the Z06 world, first vette. Question: How does the C4 LT5 405bhp vette compare with the C5 Z06's. Considering stock performance?

A 405hp ZR-1's performance is somewhere between a stock C5 and a 02 Z06.

Most of the 1/4 mile times range from 12.8 to 13.4 traping between 105-111.

I use to own a 92 ZR1 and now have on 02Z. The newer Z is a better overall car hands down. It is easier to track (if you do so) because its not as heavy. I think the ultimate car would be the C5Z with a LT5 transplant. That engine is unbelieveable! Now, just driving around town and doing a few romps here and there, the C5Z with its load of torque. Running wide open on highways, ZR1. I would love to find an admiral blue ZR1 to park next to my Z.

From what i have seen, LT5's are hit and miss could be a mid 12's car of could be a mid 13's car with 105 traps to 113 traps....

Thanks for the input! I'd love to run a stock C4 LT5...I don't have much seat time yet in my Z, so it may be a good race...

At the strip you should take one. One the highway, don't even try. Enjoy the new ride!

What do u mean , yes the Z06 has a lower top speed than the mighty ZR1, but, I am pretty sure on a roll race the Z would win up to its top speed!

What I meant was that at 4-4500rpm roll the ZR1 will walk away from a C5 Z06. People forget that the ZR1 was a high rpm, high mph car and not meant to be a drag race terror even though it was really good at that too in its day. Name another car that could do 12's in the 1/4 and hit 180mph in 1990. To this day the C5Z can only hit 172mph in stock form and it takes longer for it to get there. But to be fair, it was not meant for that just like the ZR1 was not meant to be a drag racer.

Yah Ive always been told by ZR1 owners the cars IRS setup really limited their drag srtip performance and the time the really shined was right after 100mph.

Guy in Austin named SW used to have a stroked LT5 that trapped in the 140's....Too bad his 99 FRC trapped in the 150's

Honestly it was a cool engine for its time, but you can make more power with an LS1/6 platform engine.

So, from 0-100, the Z wins? (stock Vs. Stock) or from slower roll - 100, Z still wins?

The C5 Z06 is the faster car. It has a better power to weight ratio and can get the power to the ground. I saw a video of a zr-1 vs a stock C5 and it was on the highway. THe race was pretty close, the Zr-1 won but not by a whole lot. If I can find the video I will post it. The ZR-1's performance is halfway between a Z06 and a stock C5 Coupe IMHO.

I found the link:
http://videos.streetfire.net/Player....ette%20ZR1&p=0
The C5 had a 210 lb passenger the Zr-1 had no passenger. I read the comments and apparently when the passenger switched cars the C5 actually was a "touch" faster.

Even if the Z06 is the faster car I would still take the ZR-1 because think about it. The ZR-1 is a piece of GM history sure the Zo6 is to but i dont think to the same extent. And about the being able to make more power out of an LSx series platform, don't you think the LT5 with its 4 Valves Per Cylinder would respond better to Forced Induction.

I see this getting ready to explode. First, I owned a ZR1 and now have a Z06. Each one has to be driven differently to extract the most out of it. Magazines and videos are useless. Whose to say that a the driver was or was not ****. Regardless, the Z06 will win any drag race over the ZR1 with equal drivers. The ZR1 will walk away from a Z06 on the highway from 100mph on. The ZR1 is a very heavy car at over 3500lbs. My Z06 is only 3118lbs. Big difference. The C5 is better than the C4. Big difference. To try to compare them is unfair at best. Want to really make it unfair then throw in the new Z06. Hopefully Corvettes will continue to get better as time marches on. If it were not for the ZR1 you never would have gotten the LT1 and the LSX's. There's your lasting legacy.

You guys do have to atleast admit that nothing looks better than an LT5. Even if it isnt in the fastest car it damn sure is one of the most attractive engines Ive ever seen. With those huge intake runners and those massive heads it looks like a 426 hemi and a TPI smallblock had a baby.

Hey, I agree with you. The LT5 is a superior engine in my book. It still is the only regular production engine that was able to run 24hrs straight avg. 175mph over that span. I really don't think my LS6 could do it. The LT5 was as close to a balanced and blueprinted factory engine that GM had produced til the new LS7 that was just released. I am not sure the LS7 could withstand the abuse for 24hrs either. As for modding them, the LT5 could easily achieve 700hp NA. Not sure if the LSX can do it.

Why wouldn't the LS6 or LS7 be able to handle it? Only issue I see is with oil consumption.

The new engines have VERY tough durability tests to pass.

Im right there with you.
I have never owned a ZR1 but I have driven one.
I now own a 03 Z06 and its faster, handles better, lighter, and looks better then the ZR1.
Its amazing what some people can come up with that have not drove either cars.
