Default Manual owners...Question

I know this is a stupid question, but I'm fairly new to having a manual tranny in a car, so please don't flame me too much But I keep hearing of "double clutching" while racing... Can someone please explain this to me and explain how it helps at the track/street?

Didn't double clutching refer to back in the day when they didn't have synchros? I can't remember....it doesn't apply to today's forms of racing/shifting if I remember right.

I've never had to double-clutch either the Vette or the Trams Am before it. The only modern racing technique I know of today is power shifting (which pretty much excludes the use of the clutch entirely). To double-clutch would slow you down, not speed you up. The object is to get it in gear as quickly as possible, and having to pump the clutch twice is not the way to do it.

Powershifting without the clutch?

I dunno bro, I powershift(flatshift) which is useing the clutch, but keeping the throttle matted(not lifting).

powershifting will get you better et's...... double clutching is for massive turbo lag cars that when you shift you hit the soft spot so its kind of like slipping the clutch at a higher rpm to be in the power band, stupid to do on anything but a 4cylinder you want to grenade!!

practice the quick shifting, dont ever double clutch the vette...

I guess that would be why I never tried to powershift any of my my M6 cars. And it's a good thing, too, as I apparently only understood half the concept.

Power shifting is done by keeping your right foot to the floor while shifting as fast as you can.

I normally lean on the shifter just before I'm about to push the clutch in and I just push the clutch in far enough to disengage it without pushing it to the floor.

On the 2-3 shift I just lean on it with the palm of my hand and slam it up as I'm pushing on the clutch.

Disclamer:
By using the techniques mentioned above all users of said techniques assume all responsibility if you blow your **** up!

Happy shifting!
