I agree, I'm not try to rain on anybodies parade or anything, but I find it extremely difficult to believe that 17/18 year olds have their own newer(C5 up) corvettes. I'm eighteen myself and have been working since two weeks after I turned fifteen and just recently scraped together enough money(9500) for an fbody. I've lost around three thousand dollars on cars before my current one, but I'm also a major cheap *** and didn't spend money on anything just to save up money to get my car (seriously my last car had windshield wipers with no rubber blades because they rotted off, a broken windshield, and pealing off tint). I could see if you were a dropout at sixteen and have worked full time since then, if your parents/relatives paid for your car, or you're paying huge payments every month for the next five or six years, but other than that I'm going to have to raise the BS flag.

I was 39 before I could afford one. I have had several F-bodys and 97 Cobra.

I feel your pain. I'm 41 and it wasn't until I got out of college that I could afford a "nice" car. My family had no money and it took me almost eight years to get my Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Worked my tail off.
My advice is to: #1 go to school, #2 go to class EVERY day (unless you cannot physically move due to illness NOT from a drinking binge), #3 do you homework!!! It is worth it. Just takes time and patience.

Wow, I am an old man compared to some of these guys; 24 for a 2001 convertible. I sold my 1999 Z28 which I bought when I was 20 to pay for the insurance (JJ).

As far as affording one when you are young think of this:

Military pay for a dorm rat. ~$1400 take home, zero expense free food etc, etc, etc, you only have to pay for a phone and soiled socks and underware.

My car payment is $700 a month and $260 a month for insurance at 24 years old. $1400 take home is pretty damn good, if you are still 18-19 then the insurance could go up to around $300-$400. You would own a C5 used Corvette but you would live like a pauper.

Now for a civilian you would have to make around $600 a month more and live in a rat hole. Oh yeah, and you would not be able to drive the car much due to gas etc. If you made $15 a hour you might be able to actually drive a used C5 around. Of course you could own a F-Body and live like a king, but then again you could also drive a Prius and live like a hippy.

Picked up my C5 this year @ 25 years old. I work in IT. My loan payment is $350/month - I could have gotten a C6, but that might squeeze me a bit.

What does everyone else with these nice rides do for a living?

Young guys putting a lot down?

I'm 39, got this 02 Z06 in May. I never really liked prior generations of corvettes.
