Default Viper Vette Dilema

im in a dilema and time is running down. im thinking of either adding a twin turbo setup to the vette or trading the vette for a viper and doing boltons to the viper. stock bottom end w/ sts tt kit @ 7psi im looking at close to 500rwhp vs to a '98 viper gts w/ full bolt ons im looking at 470rwhp.
i've always wanted a viper and i've always wanted a vette. i got the vette, but now i dont know which route i want to go. i wish i could have both. the viper has more torque and exclusivity, but the vette is lighter and sleeker.
the viper has a forged bottom end, the vette dosen't. the vette has more room and more for everyday. but i still want a viper. help me out guys.

That right there is your answer, you won't be happy unless you get what you really want. But then again I would be happy with a Turbo Vette

one point you did'nt make, a 500rwhp TT vette will walk away from a 470rwhp bolton viper!

other than that flip a coin

thats true, but on that viper, that bottom end is already ready for some high horsepower. i have a buddy whose making 800rwhp on his stock bottom end '94 viper rt/10. '96-'99 viper gts's bottom ends are all forged.

Id rather have the TT'd vette than the viper..

remember your not comparing a stock Viper to a stock vette.

Your comparing a bolt on viper to a TT lingenfelter Vette. The Lingenfelter vette has street cred like no other and a stock or bolt on Viper wouldnt even be mentioned in the same sentence as a Lingenfelter TT vette..

The hennesy Viper is whats comparable. People who arent even into cars have herd about the lingenfelter vette before. It's just got that much street cred man.

With the 200 pound weight diff. and the extra 30 rwhp and the 3.42 gears vrs the vipers 3.07 gears the Vette will be a good 1/2 second faster than the viper...

Those year vipers dyno 390-405 rwhp bone stock...Are you shore you can get another 70-80 rwhp from just bolt ons????

I was at the dealership aroun 4 months ago considering trading in my 04 vette for a 99 SRT10 viper..

I like you just really wanted to be able to say I owned a Viper. I felt the same way when I bought the Vette and now figured it was time to advance in the world. But when I opened the hood on that 99 Viper the engine lay out was far from what I had dreamed about. It was actually pretty pathetic looking compared to the 2004 c5 I own. Even the way the hood felt so fragile and poorly engineered really turned me off. Then when I got in side I saw that the car was actually uncomfortable and cramped compared to my vette..

AND THE INTERIOR OF THE99 SRT 10 LOOKED LIKE THE STONE AGES COMPARED TO MY 2004 VETTE. It was Horribaly UGLY...

Then I started her up for the test drive and the car did not sound how I dreamed the V10 would sound. It actually sounded like two 4 cylinder cars fighting with each other, vrs the nice rumble of the LS1.....

But on the test drive i saw what it was all about. The car absolutely moved when you went WOT......Acceleration wise it felt about the saME AS MY MODDED c5 ( AT MY TRACK STOCK VIPERS RUN 12.7-12.9 AND MY CAR RUNS 12.9-13.1....THE TRACK GOES SLIGHTLY UP HILL) But the TORQUE was simply a beautiful sensation. even with my current 450 Tourque my car still feels slow when I hit it compared to the viper...

So even though my car was better in most ways I still wanted theViper just so I could say i had a Viper. People at the dealership who saw what was going on came and told me that my vette looked better ( the 99 srt-10 is the prettiest viper I suppose) and not to do it. Even some of the sales men told me I was making a mistake and not to say they told me that...

BUT I WAS STILL GONNA DO IT JUST SO I COULD TELL PEOPLE I OWN A VIPER...

Finally my wife said that it was ugly and the inside sucked and my dream was over. I was very dissapointed. But 4 months later Im happy I still have the Vette. The Viper now has lost it's luster to me...Once the C6Z06 came out and regained the crown for fastest american sports car ( yes it has pulled better ET's and trap times than both the viper and ford GT in heads up comparisons) I was proud to be a vette owner again.

And then all the new numbers for the Viper hard top had it between 12.3-12.5...those are 2004 C5 z06 numbers man....

Do to the recent poor showing from the hardtop 2006 viper and the butt whoopin the Z06 has given it being a good 5 tenths faster. I just dont want one the way i used to when they were the top dog or atleaste second place behind the Ford GT.

stick with the Vette and drive Americas Favorite ( and fastest) sports car.

I drove my buddies SRT/10 and it was a blast...yet when I jumped back into my C5 Z06 with 465hp/440lb/ft of torque and 3.73 gears..

I felt like I was driving a race car. The Vettes smaller tighter and quicker. The Z's really tighter...IMO

I could more easily throw the vette around. (of course I own the car for 40,000 miles...so that might be part of it)

Take it for what its worth.

Break a part in the vette its expensive...do the same in the viper and its insane..

Active handling is a key attraction to the vette ...again in my opinion..

That said...The vipers an awesome ride and I've thought about it from time to time as well. Probably the only car I'd sell the vette for...if I were ever selling the vette...which I"m not...

Good luck deciding...You win either way.

they didn't make srt-10s in 99. they were called rt10s. i loves the lines of both the vette and viper. but i'm more towards the viper. i guess my biggest aw is exclusivity. i really dont care too much for the c6z being faster. the viper wont be stock for long as im wanting to get the RSI 1100hp kit. stock '98 GTS viper's avg 415rwhp. full boltons and tuning, some viper owners have gotten 470rwhp and most a minimum of 460rwhp. the '92-'95 rt10s made 370-390rwhp. i guess i would really have to test drive a viper as of today, i've only just set in a few. i dunno, i was thinking of keeping my vette and trading my cobra for the viper. but it would be more cost effective and wise to trade the vette for the viper. vette viper vette viper cobra vette cobra viper, this is what's going on in my mind until summer.

I may be young but my neighbor has a quasi-father/son relationship with me and he let me drive his Hennessey 550 99 Viper RT-10. Personally I loved the sound, loved the profile. When I got on it it was like a rocket ship. Sounds just swallowed me in. But I had to remember that his was modded and mine only had a VaraRam.

However, when we did our fun runs against each other a simple 150wet shot which happened to only cost 350 shipped and I was flying past him. My car only has an intake and a 150 shot and I walked him badly.

The interior of the Viper sucks IMO. CRAMPED leg/feet room, cramped everywhere. The seats are rad but I have sport leathers in my Vette and those aren't anything to sneeze at either.

Personally my black Vette can pull tail but his Viper is still just that. And it gets the looks and road presence. However, I wouldn't trade them. Practicality has to settle in somewhere and his 9-11 mpg and uber cramped car just couldn't sway my opinion. If I had money I would probably own one as an occasional play toy, but then again by then I would probably own a C6 z06.

Best advice I can give you is drive one. Be completely honest with yourself and if you still want it, then get it. Asking this here is kinda giving the Vette an edge anyways, going on ViperAlley or some forum like that would give the edge to the Viper. Just go with what you want.

Here's some pics just for fun...

This is a tough decision! Vipers sure are exclusive, and having a forged bottom end is awesome if you're looking to get some serious power and by serious i'm talking 1000hp+ take the Viper. If you're looking for more of a sleeper 500-600rwhp go with the vette.

Personally i'd take the Vette. Reasons:
1. Prices of service/parts favors the Vette HEAVILY
2. Availabilty of parts? Odds are the dealer has them in stock.. Viper parts probably arent stocked! (more days of the car in the shop) Favors Vette
3. I've heard the Viper gets really uncomfortable after about 45 mins. Not sure about the Vette. I've never ridden in either car for over 15 mins.
4. The heat from the exhaust is a serious issue to me... In the summer, the AC (that i hear also struggles to keep up) would be running on high to make up for this. This would take the fun factor down quite a bit for me!
5. Who the hell expects a TT vette on the streets?! There are alot of vettes, but not TT vettes!

I do love both cars, but honestly if you weigh the good/bad, I think the Vette would come out on top.

Keep us posted!

So it takes a modded 'Vette to pass the Viper, ...
How reliable will the heavily modded 'Vette be, compared to a mildly modded Viper?
I take the Viper in a 'heartbeat', ..., but that's just a matter of MY opinion, ...
'Vettes ya see everywhere. I'd dare to be different & do the Viper thing.
But I couldn't afford the insurance on either, so I'll stick to my beater, ...

the vipers front end is huge compared to the vette. no wonder why vipers create so much drag. good pics. i guess i just will have to test drive one first.

That black one looks EXACTLY like the one I was gonna get. The outside looks nicer than the C5 IMHO..But the interior in my vette was VASTLY superior.

Im still just gonna get a C6 Z06 though...The Viper guys keep using this exclusvity thing but the black 99 Viper I was gonna get that looked wxactly like the one in the pic was only 37 grand....Thats 14 grand less than what i paid for my c5.

The C6 Z06 is a ride you wont see every day as well just like the viper. Quite a few people can afford a 45-58 grand brand new C5....Not so many can afford a 65-75 grand brand new C6Z06. It will be pretty exclusive and has already been put into an exotic status from all the magazines.

I agree, with the few new Z's that are out there, you'll be in a class all by itself. Plus, the new Z's outperform the new Vipers
