Question HELP! Uncoated stainless steel LG's vs. Texas Speed Jet Hot coated (mild steel)

Ok i have been looking at both products and cant decide what to buy

The LG steet series with 2.5inch offroad Xpipe is $995

Pro's- Stainless Steel
-LG is a known performer
- Flanges bolt to the offroad xpipe

Cons- They are not ceramic coated
- the offroad xpipe is only 2.5 inches

Texas Speed LT's $899

Pros - Jet hot coated included in price
- offroad X pipe is a 3 inch setup, not 2.5 inch like the LG street series.
- jet hot coated mild steel retains heat better then uncoated stainless

Cons - Header collectors do not have a BOLT flange, they are slip fit
- Made of Mild steel

I have a budget of $1000, so its either one or the other JUST the way they come. What would you buy for your 01 Z06 if you were me? Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks

taz if your considering the 2.5" setup, checkout the results from the TSP headers with connection pipes. The complete kit with x pipe will be 3". The connection pipes are designed for guys wanting to run 2.5" pipes!

Thanks

Stainless steel will never rust. Even the best coating will eventually have rust areas. LG has the cats but adds to the price and an x-pipe. Regardless, I think they will both be close performance wise. Over on Z06vette.com two guys have installed the LG's on a stock Z and including a tune pulled 384rwhp and 392rwhp. I believe the higher number had a CAI too. Would be interested to see the TSP setup on a Z.

the connection pipes look tempting, but i really want an X pipe. Would I be able to add an Xpipe after I use the headers and connection pipes? And i what about the cats? what if I want to remove them ?

I have LGs on my Z06. They've been on at least 2 yrs and they look new. My car made 363/352 hp/tq to the tire stock, 388/375 hp/tq to the tire with a cold air and the LG long tubes.

I'm running RT cats and stock Ti mufflers on my car, too.

The LGs fit great, make good power and the quality is top notch. I think that in some cases, you get what you pay for.

well i have been doing some research and so far the latest and greatest dyno battle between LG's street series system and TSP's headers with connection pipes only.

LG has 10 more peak rwhp and 6 more rwtq, HOWEVER, after asking if LG's dyno was using a STOCK PCM tune or if the car was TUNED I was told LG's dyno DID involve a TUNED 99 C5, unlike TSP who used a totally stock PCM.

with that said I can pretty much tune more then 10 peak rwhp and 6 peak rwtq out of my STOCK 01 Z06. So my decision has been made.

TSP headers with the connection pipes FOR THE WIN. $670 shipped to my door with O2 extensions. Cant beat that, and even tho its mild steel its Ceramic Coated which HOLDS heat in the pipes better and reduces under hood temps BETTER then stainless steel alone.

Texas Speed, you have a winner with your headers

Why do you think that coated mild steel holds heat in better than stainless? Just curious, as I haven't seen any indepedent testing, just a bunch of internet engineers making claims I don't have any empirical data, just anecdotal - on my power adder car, I don't see excessive underhood temps with just uncoated SS LGs.

You said that coated, mild steel holds in heat better and reduces underhood temps when compared to SS (directly referencing the TSP vs. LG headers). I simply asked where you got that information.

I can tell you that my coated headers are 30+ degrees cooler than uncoated.
