Default which vette for boost?

hello fella's

im hoping you guys can help me out a little.
-i WILL be buying a vette within the next 2-4 months.
-and the car WILL be getting an A&A blower, and maybe
a forged 346-402.

my problem is that i REALLY want a 2002 Z06! and i know one can be had for around $28-32K. but i also know that i can get
a 2000-2002 coupe for around $25-28K, which means i could save enough to get a forged bottom end... but i really want a Z06!, so im stuck.....

take the practical route..... C5 and save a few $$$
or get the car i want..... Z06! and be happy with it with or without a blower!

so please comment.

thanks guys!

What about buying a 99 or 00 FRC, and moding that?

If you want the Z, then get it! If not, you'll always be wondering what you could have done with one...you can always mod later. If you're one to compromise, then get the coupe; you can make them much faster than a stock Z. It's all about what you prefer. Mod now, or have the car that you really want, and mod later. You can't go wrong with either IMO; just boils down to personal preference. Good luck

Doesn't get much better of an explanation as that.

My 01 Z is in a different class than my 99 coupe. No comparison.

buy the c5 coupe and then put on ls6 head/cam.
if i buy the coupe..... it will get a forged 346-402 and an A&A D1 kit....
650rwhp here i come!

but if i get a Z06.... it may just be LG's for a while, then maybe just a Pisc.

but for me.... i like having the top of the line.... but if i could find a SPOTLESS coupe
at a great price, it will be hard to make a desision.....

your right.... it IS the one i want.... but there is still apart of me that wants the killer HP, and not so much the killer car (Z06).

so i was hoping there would be a technical reason why i should go for one over the other......

If your going with Andy's kit and a forged block just buy a cheap C5 for 13K. I don't see why you would buy a Z or a mint C5 for 25K+ to tear apart. I would look for a high mileage FRC and start from there. JMO

Becouse our stock "rods" suck and there was an advisory out on, NOT using any forced Induction on gen.1 or gen.2 moters! Something to do with powderd metal??? I work with a man whos brother was in the original design group and the bean counters at G.M. did this to save 66 cents!!! on each rod!!!

I don't think so! My sister in laws ex husband's son knows a guy that went to school with the head bean counter @ G.M. He said a little F/I won't hurt

The stock pistons go first, not the rods. On a Mustang Chassis Dyno, I consider 500 rwhp to be the limit on the stock bottom end. Replace the rods and pistons and you can crank up the boost. We made 790 rwhp with an '02 Z06 with twin turbos, on the factory crankshaft. This '02 Z06 is in the project car section of my website, there's a video of it there, if you want to check it out. Bob

I just installed the A&A Vortech SQ-Trim with 7# and Meth on my 2002 Z06. I made 543RWHP with a very safe tune. The car is a blast to drive now!

If your a baller on a budget, go for the FRC vette. The Z06, is without a doubt, a faster car, right outta the box. If you can afford one, and afford to mod it, then its simple, buy the Z06. Simple.

If you can't do that, your next best bet(not like its a bad choice) is the FRC vette. Either way, your gonna need to do the bottem end if your gonna throw boost at it, no matter what(unless your gonna go with a SMALL psi number, and why would you wanna do that?). The heads, thats a given, easy swap. Suspension,...well, you can add any shock you'd like,....or that you could afford. Like the Z06 brake ducts do ya? Me too. Buy em, add em. Done. Just don't put Z06 badges on it.

It's like someone here said, get what YOU really want cause, you might not be satisfied.

Personally, "I" wanted a Z06. At the time, it was not realistic for me to go out and purchase one,....just wasn't. So I bought a FRC. I honestly couldn't be more happy man, especially when I walk Z06's.

Anything can be fast. Best wishes on your selection.
