Default may trade the 04 coupe for a 99 rt10 Viper

What do you guys think about this car????

It's a red 99 rt 10 viper with 25000 miles.

450 HP and 490 tourqe...

It's the one that has the removable top.

Is this a nice car buy todays standards or do you think Im not really gonna be upgrading.

I can get one of the newer 2003 body styles but for some reason it just dosent look as nice to me...

Id really like fellow corvette owners opinions on this. Oh BTW the 99 Viper was the last year the engine was all forged.

Thanks for any help.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Well, I was once told that trading in one car for an older car is not a smart idea, but I love that body style. I still think the VETTE is a better all around sports car, though I can appreciate the extra hoursepower. Plus, gas prices is probably going to get worse before it gets better and the C5 gets excellent gas mileage for a sportscar.

What it boils down to...is this what you want? If so, get it and enjoy that beast.

Whose car is anyway? I just left Pearl a couple of months ago and I am a little curious.

If the numbers look good, I'd definitely do it.

Considering the fact I have driven, live by, and play around with a 99 Henessey 550 Viper....I think I have an opinion on this matter.

The Vette is the daily driver, hands down. The Viper sucks gas so harshly and it gets really hot inside the cabin. Don't get me wrong it's still a fun car, the Viper is much more so a weekend car.

For what it's worth my Vette with just my cam/LT/tune walks the Viper. Choose whatcha want. It dynoed in at 448 rwhp and 496 rwtq with a shitty tune from Henessey, so a stock one would dyno lower.

I can appreciate your input! Sweet rides and I would love to feel the power of both rides?

Very different feel on motor to motor. Viper has power immediately, anywhere you want to put the pedal down. But as soon as the Vette gets up to around 2600 it starts to take off and around 4grand it's absolutely flying. And I haven't sprayed with the cam yet....

I really like the Viper but I just don't see it ever being as daily driven friendly as the Vette, it's also louder at idle and louder driving around, cabin is much more cramped especially with the top on. I am 6'2" and I can barely fit inside it comfortably. But it's wickedly fun and the attention getting is crazy.

i was told this a year or two ago but i have never been in a viper so i dont know if its true, if you dont reallycare about ride quality sound comfort or anything get teh viper, if you do get the vette. i was told this by a friend who has owned both and told the vette is a amazingly refined sports car and the viper is prehistoric inthat sense. maybe this helps, or maybe im just a vette guy. never did like those vipers much.

Well I bought my 04 brand new and it only has 15 K miles....I only drive it once or twice a week so Im not really concerned about the daily driver stuff..

- I drive it to the drag strip
-I drive it for my weekly date with the wife
-I drive it to dyno and oil changes

So thats about it really....

Im not really trying to compare the too.I lovemy c5 but honestly a C5 or c5z06 or C6 is not in the same league as a Viper...

Only the C6Z06 is.....

My car based at 43 grand and was 50,500 with options msrp....

I beleave this 99 rt10 Viper based at 67 grand and was 73 grand with options....

Thats a total different league IMHO.

So Isupposse that my question is really........Do you think the 99 rt10 is still a hot model. Or by 2006 standards is it old news and not really an supercar/exotic any more?

With the mods my car has now I have given stock Gen2 Vipers kneck and kneck races so Im not really doing this for the speed...

More for the hey look at me driving this expensive rare car effect that the C5 dosent seem to have like I thought it would.

I have a friend with a 06 Viper and have driven it. While its a huge attention getter and is great fun the Vette is more comfy and easier to drive. My Vette will play with his car effortlessly.

Is this Laron?

This is what I would do. Your car has already had a few things done to it, but I would swap the gears and get some 3:73s and a torq converter and drive that. I think with those changes to your vette, I really think you will think twice about considering a VIPER, because your car will be entirely different with some gears and a TC.

I really like the styling of the VIPER, I think it is a great looking ride, but I would never give up my VETTE!

If it was a '98, I would say do it. The LS1 is a more refined motor than the LT1 and the '97 doesn't have the LS1 in it.

Well that is what I allready did. I know that I wanted an LS1 but I can still make my LT1 rock. It is better than a 2.2L ecotec. When my LT1 dies later in life I will drop somtin knew in there.

I do agree, the LT1 is a major step up and the TRANS AM does have a great styling to it.

There is only one American sports car, and you own it I think that 1993-1994 had the forged internals.

Stick with the vette, the vipers are more than overrated and over priced I love nothing better than seeing a 80k car getting smoked by a vette with 5k in mods... I absolutely love it

Vipers are really cool, but I think your talking about totally different animals.
I almost bought a 98 rt/10 instead of my z06. I drove both of them and it wasnt even close for fit and finish.
Vipers are pretty expensive to fix, and are harder to go fast around a road course, and I dont dailt drive my Z either.
Good luck

I'm new to the vette scene, but before I bought my car, I did a lot of research into all of the "sports cars." Styling and attention, the Viper is awesome. Refinement goes to the vette hands down. Gas mileage: Vette ++++. Engine life longevity: Vette ++++. For the difference in price, you can add a little and make the vette walk the viper. I guess it really boils down to what floats your boat. Sounds like you're really wanting a change? If so, get what you want, the Viper. But I'll wager that after the new wears off, you'll be wanting a vette again. Good luck!
