Thunder Racing just put a SPEC 3+ and billet fly in my Z a couple of weeks ago. I was happy with the stock LS6 clutch and had a new one put in with the stroker, but the pedal started sticking... that's why I went aftermarket.

I remember seeing pics of a C5 that was damaged by an exploding Cartek clutch, so it's not just SPEC that's having the problem.

stop talking **** jamie.

spec knows your bolts were rusted even though they have never seen it. AHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA

it really is sad that we lost two of these gorgeous cars. especially within a short period of time.

Its also terrible that spec has no done something besides the usual 'send it back'.

How is someone suppose to send a clutch back thats jammed in between the dash?

Next thing you'll know is that they'll wnat all the pieces, so we'll have to go out to the highway and do an inch by inch search for the rest of the pieces lmao

Yeah man. Some wack **** right?... Now they want the car to be sent to them. Ha. So they can what, find something to prove that it wasn't the clutch?... Nah. We'll fix the problem ourselves, and seek legal action on our own. I'll blast they're names all over the internet world.

You know the south florida street scene knows all about specs failures.

Anyways,... I need to wire up this kit man.

I had a spec in my car, I think we yanked it right before it did something like that. Vibrated at 2k rpms and shuddered like crazy at take off. I pulled it and sold it for a significant discount, with strict instructions NOT to install it unless it was professionally balanced at a shop that knew what they were doing.

I love my RPS now. Its the bomb diggety. If Spec is working you over, make sure everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, knows about it. Hit every LSx forum you can think of. This community is tight knit, and they will think twice before they shaft someone with imagined impunity.

Werd. I went to my friends garage last night to actually put the car up on stands. It really is crazy when the bellhousing is non-existant. One entire half of the pressure plate is sticking directly into the passenger side firewall. That would have sucked the the passenger.....to get a nice lapfull of warm pressure plate in your lap.

Awesome job spec....really awesome. I'm not sure if a grenande would have done more damage. Anybody is very fortunate to walk away like this.

Ok cool man.. I live in ft.lauderdale/miami area. I grew up fifteen minutes north of you in Vero Beach.

I'll be at moroso in the next few weeks as well. Just hit me up whenever your going, or down south. I'm always down for something.

Wow. I am happy for this thread.
I posted a clutch thread over on the CF's, asking opinions on the Spec 3, as that was what I was looking to buy. Someone posted the link for this thread. After reading this, I think I will pass on it.
Maybe spend the extra loot on an Exedy twin.

Well, thats my intension man. Last thing I want to read, is a member posting about how his o rhis passengers legs got cut/severed/removed from a chunk of metal similar to a break rotor in size and shape....a part that is "SFI" approved....which I am going to look into that by contacting the firm/group "SFI" themselves to make sure these approved comapnies are up to date.

I'm a memeber at some other corvette sites,...i'll post over there soon too as well.

Car guys gotta stick together....where one fails, due to trial and error, another should learn by that, and succeed.

Thanks...Jamie

I been running spec clutches for well over 3 years now... The spec 3+ and the spec twin disc at that is with well over 800hp at the crank... I have never had a single problem with a spec clutch in my life. They are a solid company and make a solid product...

SPEC sucks,... stay away. They totalled three cars, all in the same area code, all different installers. Yes, this was years ago but, the problem is still there. If you want,... GOOGLE ANY CLUTCH COMPANY FAILURE,...any company at all,.. take note of how many hits you get for each one,....then GOOGLE SPEC CLUTCH failure,... and you'll see quite a few more numbers. I didn't go back and read my original post here but,... the company did nothing to work with me,... and they lied about me on other forums, saying my car was in KATRINA and ****,.. saying it was abused before hand,.. etc. These people knew nothing about me.

The day I have the oppertunity to smack one of they're douchebag employees in the mouth,... I will.

Worse clutch company ever.

mike, then lucky you for not being a part of the large group of people. curious, what makes you think they are a "solid company" or a solid product? Have you ever seen(well, dumb question since you SAY you haven't) one come apart? It's pretty wild, lemme tell you. Especially when the pressure plate is sitting inside your car.

If you haven't heard about this,... your simply NOT in the loop-

Spec clutches are the motortrend of clutches,.. every douche that reads it, is a douche. It's like a mainstream clutch. Go buy yourself a real clutch, your legs will probably thank you.

OMG I can't beleive those pics. The cars will never be the same with that kinda damange. So sorry for you bud. I put a spec clutch in a customers z06 a while back and it chatted you teeth so bad on any type of take off. Ripped it out as fast as I could and put a new gm one back in. Will never do a spec again. especially after seeing this.

Lets get one thing understood... Any and I mean any clutch can come apart at any given time. That could have just as easily been a tex clutch or anything else. The solution for a high performance car is a SFI bell housing... We are all testing time even though I believe almost all the clutches we use are SFI rated...
