What would you do about this?
What I want to eventually do is convert the interior to all white LED's, to match the gauge cluster. I hate that the cluster is white and then everything else is dookie yellow.
I found a CD player for $50, a guy tried to do the LED mod himself and it screwed up the player. It works fine, all the buttons work, LCD works, but it just doesn't light up at night (except the LCD). I figured it was just the LED's done wrong, so I bought it and had him ship it right to a guy that does the LED conversions.
Got it yesterday, plugged it in, everything works except it still doesn't light up. The circuitboard will light up out of the car if you power it with a battery or something...but in the car, something has gone wrong between the 12v connector and the lights themselves in the radio.
I've got $190 into this project now and it doesn't work. Fixing it now is beyond my ability, I don't do intensive radio electronic things.
Most places I call want at LEAST ~$89 to fix it. So that would mean I'd have ~ $280 in it.
Should I :
a) give up, just buy an aftermarket player and be done with it.
b) dump more $$ into fixing it
c) buy a working headunit and do the LED mod.
I'm so stumped.
I used to think they'd be a waste of money, but after having one, I couldn't imagine jogging or going to the gym without one. I went the cheap route and got a Sandisk which was like 1/4 price of the Ipod.
That guy probably shorted out something while soldering the leds in.
If I didn’t know how to solder i would probably have someone I trust look at it.
