Default Went to the track, I HATE SPEC!

well my 1st time out at the track ever on wed. nite. was pretty pleased overall but i will never touch another spec product. Well to start the story off it was 88degrees and 96%humidity on wed here in chitown. drove my car home from work slapped on the drs and picked up some bags of ice. we drove up to the track an hour and i let the car cool for about 45min maybe half an hour. went for the 1st run. lowered tire pressure to 20lbs and didnt heat emm up. launched the car at 2300rpms and 60' was 2.13 bogged hard. i ended up running 12.98 at 111mph. 1st time ever at the track ever and raced my buddy that has been talking big for the last 6months about his car beating mine. well i beat him he beat me to the 1/8th and i came chugging hard. well that run felt good so time to let the car cool off. 45 min later i go back for the second run. launch the car at 3500rpms and it hooked really hard and bam im baning the rev limiter at about 20mph, uh oh no good. frying the clutch i coasted to the 60' mark and managed a 2.13 got back into it after i coasted past teh 60' grabed 2nd and went i ended up going 16.05 at 105. my buddy w/his saleen was only trapping 104 so i got a chance to laugh at him for a while. this is a cam only car and my 1st run was a half second better than a blown full exhaust c5 running that night. my clutch by the way only has about 5k on it. im a little dissapointed to say the least but all in all 12.98 @111 wasnt bad for 80 degree temps and 93% humidity.

Ls7 clutch is the way to go.

I keep hearing bad things about Spec. I was going to go with them but I'm gonna pass.

Don't go threw all the trouble just to put back in an UPGRADED factory clutch. Why would ANYONE want to do that is beyond me.

SPEC, ******* sucks. I think most of you know why my reasons are what they are.

The LS7 clutch, won't last forever under hard launching. Remember, it IS A FACTORY CLUTCH.

Buy an RMS or EXEDY or Textralia or RAM.....anything but a spec or a factory clucth. If your NOT going to mod your car, if your not going to race your car...and you want an upgraded clucth cause youo don't know how to bang gears...then buy a stock LS7 clucth....as it would probably last a 70 year old forever.+

DO NOT BUY A SPEC CLUTCH

I've been running my McLeod twin disc for a while, auto-x's to drags, 5k rpm wot dumps all day long, sticky tires, hot lapping it too, this clutch is ****... I would highly reccomend one, I havent tried anything else in THIS car but I dont think I ever will.... I'm sure one day I will burn this one out but I've been pounding it on a daily basis for about 8months now.... the guys at McLeod know there ****!

well that was a prob because i bought the car off my dad who had just put in a spec stage 1. i had no choice in the matter, but a exceddy or mcleod or ram clutch will be in next year w/ the new set up because this car will be built for the strip. god i hate spec

This is pretty interesting. I've had Spec clutches in different vehicles over the years and yet to have a problem. I'm currently running the Spec Stage 3+ and have no issues of clutch chatter or slipping problems on the road course or strip. As the car starts to lay down more power I'll let you know how it goes.
