I was looking at a FRC myself but settled on a clean low mileage 03 Electron blue Z06. Previous owner put on Wilwood rotors, B&B exhaust, Toyos on chrome wheels. I'm sure I'll put a larger engine together for it as time permits but I'll tell you, for Southern Ca. traffic conditions this car is pretty quick with the stock engine.

Going by Curb weight the Z06 is about 100lbs lighter than the Coupe and the FRC is about 50lbs lighter.

Z06 - 3118(2002)
FRC - 3170(1999)
Coupe - 3218(1997)
Vert - 3246(1998)

if you can afford it, do it. I have a 98 C5 and my bf has an 01 Z06. In my opinion the power difference is like night and day.

Simple: People with Coupes/FRCs will say to get the LS1 and enjoy the leftover cash to buy mods. People with Z06s say to pony up and get the Z06. You will be happy with either.

Well, I guess you guys are a bad influence. I finally made a decision. I will be flying to San Antonio TX to pick up this Z06 which I got for less than his asking price.

if you are 6'0" or taller, I'd go with a vert simply because it's a whole lot easier to get in and out of without banging you head.

I have my current ride, a C6, which is my 2nd corvette and is a coupe. I leave the roof off the car most of the time, but it's a PITA removing and re-installing the roof all the time. a vert would be much faster and easier.

I'm wishing I would have sprung for a vert, but the deal was too good to pass up. my next corvette will definately be a vert and I'm right at 6'0" tall.

just my $.02

I know the sway bars are different, are the brakes, springs, shocks different also?(Z06 vs coupe)

I'm having the same problem deciding plus I'm 6 1 so that is making me wonder if I could comfortably drive a z06 with a helmet on at a road course or autocross(which I intend to do a lot of).

the brakes are the same, the springs are stiffer, and the shocks stiffer. But most upgrade the shocks to Bilstein sports. Head room should be the same as a coupe...

I like the FRC body style, and was leaning that way when I vought my car. I ended up staying in Iraq longer then planned, saved more $and when it was time to bugy my car, Ken @ the vette net found a perfect 01Z, 14k miles and perfect clean. It is mine now

I was worried at first about a Z being too much, too tight for driving on the street, or making road trips to the NCM... it is painless and I thought it would beat me up more as far as suspension was concerned. The harshest street car I have ever been in was a Mini Cooper S, and that thing rattled, bounced and jarred my spine on ever bump

BLUFF, any choice is the right one. Find a clean, low miles car. COnsider what your use will be, ie cruise, look good, HPDE, auto X, drag... and factor that in. Good luck!

The only wieght reduction on my car from street to strip is 1/4 to 1/2 tank of gas, and CCW clasic steets with mich PS1 to CCW 16 drags (DOT slicks n skinnies): 3040 strip.

Stock, the Z has a harder top end hit then an LS1, red line is up to 6500 and has a better clutch. The M12 has taller 1, 2, and 3 which is actualy like an M6 with 390s. Any C5 will have more then enough to be fast on the street and more then enough for the twisties. Congrats on the new car and get some pics up man!!!

I like the looks and lines of the FRC alot more than the coupe. It's just so much more "exclusive" in my opinion like the Z06. A vette is a vette so what can you do to set yourself apart from the crowd? Plus, You'll have the looks and the handling (since theyre all Z51) and more power than a Z06 if you do just a couple performance mods, at a cheaper price. But there's something really cool about being able to take the roof off the coupe on a nice day. Form before function or function over form?
