Default First mod to the Z06. Lets talk induction

Well I plan on getting an aftermerket induction setup for my 2003 50th ann Z06. This will be pretty much be my first mod to the car. later on will come some LG long tubes, DRs and alot of other bolt ons. Now im having some trouble on deciding which one to go with. I was looking into just the Chrome Dual intake setup. I was leaning toward this one because I Like the chrome finish and I'm looking for more of a "show style" under the hood. How ever I have heard some downfalls to this product such as air trying to rush into the tube. Now i talked with Larry at LS1 speed about the Raptor XXL intake. I have also heard many good things about the Vararam Air too. I do want a setup that will provide a nice amount of power as well. If anyones got some pics/ or experences with any of these setups, feel free to give some input. I want to go ahead and get this mod done already!! thanks alot guys!!

We have had great success with the Donaldson BW and the Halltech intakes. You can spend the money for the bells and whisltes but the HP is not there. As for the y-intake, I highly discourage this due to tuning issues. The MAF gets really Pi$$ed Off.

My understanding is that the vararam and raptor xxl are about the same performance wise with the advantage leaning towards the raptor. its easier to install as well. either one makes a difference, especially with a tune

Go for the Vararam. Proven to make good power. I have had 2, and have had no problems with either. Install is kinda aggravating.

I personally got the haltech mainly cause it was simple to install and all the intakes really are going to be about the same power wise. The black wing is good to but I wanted a nifty new air bridge that I dont think you get with the black wing. As for the vararam my buddy has one it was kind of a pain to install due to having to remove so many parts but the theory of it getting the cooler air is good.

Vararam > Haltech.

01 Z06, we had the haltech first, decided to change to a vararam. My bf felt a noticeable difference.

yea im def leaning towards the Raptor XXL. this thing looked huge. I would want to get an aftermarket powerduct and stuff as well. Those carbin fiber ones looks pretty nice. Would it be worth to upgrade a MAF? I would want everything up to the TB aftermarket.

I made my own setup using an F-body airlid and cutting a big hole in the plastic piece that it sets on so it gets cold air....seems to work great.....search for my thread on it in here. Would only cost $100 if you don't have an f-body airlid lying around.

Donaldson Black Wing user here. Easy install.

There was a good thread where a Corvetteforum member bench flowed the stock intake track, made some good reading. Here's the link
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...highlight=Flow

From being on the boards, Vararam has probably been the more popular intake with many threads discussing/agrueing its use of RAM-Air etc...reguardless the Vararam guys swear by it as working as advertised.

Default Honker!

I would go with the Callaway Honker. Perfect fit and it works. You can tell that Callaway spent their engineering money wisely. It fits like an OEM piece unlike the Vararam with it's poor fit. By the way I have the Callaway on my car.
