Question engine removal

I am pulling an engine out of my 02 z06 and i can't get it to pull out of the torque shaft. i took the bolts out of the slave cylinder. all bolts are out of the cover plate and all the bolts are out that connect to the torque tube. do i need to drop the rear subframe and lower the trans and then pull the engine out or am i forgetting something?
thanks

I have never pulled the motor out from the top but I have puller the drivetrain out pleanty. To get the motor to seperate from the torque tube the motor will have to come forward alot to come out the clutch and output shaft on the torque tube. I know just from driving the drivetrain for clutch installs the rear end and tranny had to be at a lower angle and it was still a pain to get them to seperate from the motor.

Nothing needs to be done with the master or slave cylinder for an engine pull. Just make sure you have the five bolts removed that connect the engine bellhousing to the torque tube. You do not need to do anything with the rear subframe or transmission. Just make sure you are supporting the torque tube/trans with a jack. After the bolts are removed you will be able to pull the engine forward off the torque tube splined shaft and then pull the motor out. Just make sure the torque tube is not in a bind with the pilot bearing/clutch and it should separate for you.

i still can't get it out. i basically spent all day on it and got nothing accomplished. i can't pull it off the torque shaft because the oil pan is hitting and i took all the bolts out of it but i can't pull it out no matter how far i raise the engine. so i guess tomorrow i am going to start pulling the rear subframe and trans unless i can think of anything else.

the trick is to drop the sub frame down to clear the bottom of the oil pan bud, just finished putting my 408 in had the same prob taking the motor out. there are 4 bolts that bolt the sub frame to the car in the front, loosen those and u good 2 go!

I assumed you already had the front rack removed or lowered. Again, you do not need to do anything with the rear rack, trans, or torque tube. As n2ojoe stated, either remove the front rack or if you have a motorcycle jack (works great) place it under the front rack and lower it down to clear the pan. You will need to also take loose the upper a-arms and front shocks to get the rack to drop. It is called the daemon rack for a reason

I agree the motorcycle jack works like a champ for the front and also for the rear cradle when dropping either one.

Sorry I need to jump in here with questions. I am going to be installing a clutch and new heads along with ls2 timing chain. The heads and chain won`t be a problem. However not familiar with cluch/torque tube on these cars/C5. My question is---

Is it easier to pull motor to get to clutch since heads being installed and steering rack will be removed to access timing chain? Or should go through the rear method. I am thinking pulling motor will be easier since it will be down to a short-block. Please any info will help.

Either way is pretty much painful. Choose your poison. I've done it both way numerous times and it is just not fun.
