Default Next Question! Oil consumption

I am interested in a 01 Z06! I hear there is oil consumption issues with that year LS6. I found a perfect low mile 01, not even a crack in the leather. Silver with black/red interior..... Should I hold out for a 02 or later model? I dont care that it has less power! So thats not the issue. Is there any other things i need to know about the difference between the 01 to 02-04....

02's and newer came with HUD.

Very few 01's had the oil consumption issue. I went with an '01 but only because they offered Speedway White only in '01 and they built only 352 of them. No oil consumption issues.

I mean, the HUD is cool but how many of you guys use it all the time compared to the regular tachs? I know on my V, i never even looked at the speedo just the digital read out.

The 2001 LS1/LS6 engines had 9lb piston rings. Oil consumption would be most pronounced under high rpm light load conditions according the the TSB from GM. Anyway, the fact is that some cars from that year use a lot of oil and others do not. GM was Re-ringing engines under warranty for a time but consumption had to be very high to get them to do it. If you are going to buy this car run a vin check and see when it was assembled. If its late in the model year, after April 01 you have the first generation coated pistons. I wouldn't be too hesitant in purchasing it but I would want to get a full history on it before buying it (warranty work etc.)

My old 01 C5 burned oil and Sigforty's 01 Z06 burned oil.
Both had heads/cam and were spinning high RPM. Mark's engine finally detonated (probably from oil lowering the octane rating of the gasoline) and blew up #7.

That's all I have to say about that.

for piece of mind you can check to see if the car was re-ringed, alot of 01s had the problem solved
