What is the best bolt on parts for the Vette. I have had 3 mustangs, and this is my first LS1 car. Also, what kind of numbers do the stock C5 coupes put down on the dyno? Does anybody have a complete exhaust (headers back) and how much real life power does it gain? There's probably 3 different threads in this one post, i'm just anxious to start modding this thing. I have a brother and a good friend who are still driving there stangs, and they are gunning for me.... Thanks!

I have an 01 M6 coupe. I would like to go bottom 12's. my Cobra's were high 11 sec cars, and I really liked the power they had, I figure if I can get this vette to their times, I will absolutely love this thing.

how much did it cost ya and what did ya put in the stang to do 11,s that is very fast for a street car.well do the same on the vette only bring more money. ever play with NOS? cheapest HP ya can get and safe if you are prudent.get drag tires.what rear gear?every day driver?if not and just playing on the street put a 4.10 in it no one will get ya till 100 mph but no high way cruiser. or leave it alone and enjoy it .if the mustang boys beat ya just tell them that when you get up the next day youll be driving a vette and they will be driving well dare i say it yes i will .a car that most buyers are female so ask them is that your mommies car.ya can out brake them out turn and top end them maybe lose at the drags so bet 100 bucks on each type they will pay ya 300 bucks. i have an 01 a4 geared, stalled and i never had to look at ANY stangs rear plate.my back up is an 07 z06 they get along side and see the badge then back off

The vette cost me less then 20k. I got a really great deal on it. On the 03 sonic cobra I did the 2.8 pulley swap w/ catback, CAI and nitto dr's and I got it into the 11's. The 04 Mystic crome had a Kenne Bell w/ 15#'s, it was a beast. I have been reading that a full exhaust on the vette will get me 30-40rwhp. Is that accurate? is the stock exhaust that restrictive? I have the donaldson blackwing air intake on it now, which came w/ the car, but I was wondering if the vararam ram air kit is better? I want to start w/ just basic bolt on's for now, until I can do a stroker kit for it.

With long tubes, X-pipe and exhaust, ~30 rwhp is about the outer limit of the improvement you're likely to see.

The various CAI's are all about the same. The Blackwing is fine.

With the headers, exhaust and a tune you should see 30 rwhp. After exhaust do a cam, heads, and bolt ons. then you should see 450 rwhp.

Stock they usually put down 285-300 depending on a number of factors.
C5's actually dyno slightly less than Fbodies due to the heavier rotating mass of the IRS. But they make up for it and more in the weight and areodynamics department.

Don't waste time with the handheld programmers.

Get a real dyno tune after the mods... or better yet, get hptuners/laptop and do a "perfect street tune" after every mod you make. hptuners makes a great investment.

My bro. w/ 01GT is getting a Sniper Tuner, they send you a program w/ software so you can do the tune yourself on a laptop. They are only set up for Fords now, but in the near future, they will be ready for the LSx motors. It's about 500 bucks, but you can do 2 cars w/ it.
On a cam swap in the Vette, do you have to unbolt the engine, or can you fit the cam in by taking off the radiator and ac parts? Looks really tight to me. If I get a Z06 oem cam w/ springs and lifters, can I use my factory heads, and if so, how much power w/ full exhaust can I expect. Thanks for the info!

you are wasting your time and money only upgrading to a z06 cam...with your ls1 heads the gains are going to be minimal. get a proven cam if you are going to do it.

Also go to a reputable tuner...who tunes with A/F. You cant do a good tune without it...believe me i tried. HP tuners only costs $499 and you can do 4+ cars with it. Thats my advice..take it or leave it. You are going to go down the road most people go and nickel and dime yourself for minimal power.

I appreciate any input/advice you have, i'll take all of it. What about the cam install? does anybody know if I can do it thru the front w/ motor in? or do I have to unbolt the motor and 'angle up'?

Check out the local Corvette clubs in your area. Try to find one with members that do D E Events (road courses) or drag race... which-ever you prefer.

These guys will have tons of experience with the C-5 Vette and can either help you or recomend a Vette shop nearby.

Good luck with your new ride.
