its about time...for a while i thought Dodge was being GM and not a trend setter....the big question is $90k for a 600hp Viper or $100k+ for a 600hp Vette? I think id spend the extra chump change on the vette...

Love the new VIPER with its 600 N/A ponies. Car is BAD AZZ in my opinion but I pretty much love any american muscle car capable of low 11 high 10 sec 1/4 mile ets stock from the factory with a warranty!!

06 Z06 will still take the 600 hp Viper. First off the 06 Z06 is makeing 450 to the wheels in factory form, so with a 12 percent drivetrain loss its making at least 520 or more at the flywheel. Its going to take more than 80 hp to make up for the weight difference, 50/50 weight distribution, aerodynamics , and so on. Z06 weight is 3100 pounds and the Viper with the new and improved model in 08 will be at least 3500 pounds. The stock Z06 goes 10s if you put a sticky tire on the back. The 600 hp viper will get close.
This reminds me of the 500 hp Shelby GT (Cobra) versus a 400 hp C6. The corvette wins.

You have to respect any of the car makers that will put anything out like these cars with this kind of horsepower. I remember the early 70's when all the powers that be, just killed performance car with low compression and all the smog crap. It is fun to have a choice again to be able to go buy a factory hotrod again!!

It takes a viper gen 2 or gen 3 490 rwhp to run dead even with a bone stock C6Z06...
So a gen 2 needs to add 80 rwhp while a gen 3 needs to add 50 rwhp to run dead even with a C6z06...
A 500 rwhp gen 2 or gen 3 Viper will pull a stock c6Z06...
600 crank HP minus the typical 9-12% drive train loss that the Viper has done for the past 14 years means that the new 2008 Viper should dyno from 525 -550 rwhp...
gen 1 400 HP vipers dynoed 365 rwhp on average..9% drive train loss
Gen 2 450HP vipers dynoed 410 rwhp on average...9% drive train loss
gen 3 510HP Vipers dynoed 440 rwhp on average...12% drive train loss
C6Z06 505HP dynos 455 rwhp on average....10% drive train loss
So at a 12% loss the 08 600HP Viper will dyno 528 rwhp ( about 30 more rwhp than it needs to pull a C6Z06)
at a 9% drive train loss the 08 600HP Viper will dyno 545 rwhp and give the Ford GT a very good run from 0-200 mph
So a gen 2 needs to add 80 rwhp while a gen 3 needs to add 50 rwhp to run dead even with a C6z06...

The Viper will be more bang for the buck if the 600hp Z goes near 100k....I REALLY like that price.

I just read the new Motor Trend article about the 600 hp Viper. Bore was increased 1 mm to increase displacement to 8.4 liters. New ignition, new intake, better valvetrain allowing a 6400 rpm vs the old one set at 6000 r's. Not much else other then a revised air box. Just checked the article Re-Worked heads, larger valves, 23% more flow on intake, 12% more flow on the exhaust. A new dual disc clutch pack. Upgraded Venom Computer is faster and connects to OBD II. Lighter weight lifers, compression is increased from 9.6 to 1 to 10.2 to 1. 8.4 liter 600 hp 560 tq @ 5000 rpms. Lots of new little go fast innovations.

Out of 8.4 liters I'm not impressed. I'd much rather buy the Z and throw a cam and headers in it and have a much faster, more luxurious, and better sounding ride for less. The Z can cover this number N/A no problem with less cubes and less weight.
