How much Did A shop charge you to change your Clutch in your C5?
I think its that time for a new clutch and I just wanted to get some Ideas on priceing to see if I get a good Deal. I would do it myself But I heard if you flex more than 5 MM between the Rearend and trans you destroy the trans internals, and I dont want to deal with all that junk.

I did it myself. It sucked, honestly, but I put in a dual disc clutch.

I was told about $850... but that was also to install a new (improved) master cylinder and slave cylinder along with the clutch.

I was quoted around $700 labor. I did it myself though. Somebody ssmarter than me needs to chime in on that flex thing. If you remove the diff, tranny and torque tube together as a unit what is going to flex and hurt the tranny? I will say its not the most fun. I've done 3.

i havent heard of any of that 5mm tranny / differential the only think I would be really careful with is the following...

on the torque tube you will see this illustration
just dont let the tranny/differential drop to low becuase you will risk the back of the motor hitting the firewall.

What he says. I helped a buddy do a clutch on his 00FRC. It was a pain in the ***. Dealers want 1000+ for labor and most shops $650+ plus parts.

~600 ish. Remember shops usually charge extra if the car has long tube headers or a turbo setup that requires extra work to do the clutch swap.

GM dealership nearby charges $800 labor. I've done two on my back on jackstands and I won't do that again!

Wasn't that bad, IMO. It took me about 8 hours total by myself with 3 trips to the store and a lunch break to replace the hydraulics. It would take another 1-2 hours to replace the clutch with stock manfolds or another 2-3 hours if you have headers. I'm guessing I could do it in 60% of that time since I know what to look for and have the proper tools.

Its a little tedious, but it was a little easier (IMO) than doing a clutch on an Fbody*. The daunting part of the ordeal is removing the rear cradle. It isn't that much work, but it is a big/heavy part that intimidates people. That said, make sure you have an idea of WTH you are doing before you bust out the air tools .

A tranny jack like the one from Harbor Freight is critical. Actually, a couple of tranny jacks would be ideal. *I am used to removing a T56 from an Fbody with a jack and then picking it up myself. With a good tranny jack, I'm betting the Fbody task wouldn't be nearly as bad.
