Default mods to beat c6?

A good friend of mine has a stock 05 c6 6-speed. Ive already taken the car with the TA my question is whats it gonna take on the c5 to pull him. My car is a bone stock 99 vert 6-speed. Thanks

Probably would take a set of headers, cat back exhaust, fast 90 & 90MM maf with a CAI and good tune.

Should put you in roughly the same HP range as a stock C6.

my stock 01Z took a c6 from a roll by 4 lengths. im sure some of that was the driver, but you will need in the range of 350-375rwhp.

Heck if you're going to go that far you might as well do the heads at the same time.

Were going to do something similar to my bro's FRC this winter.

Going to beef up the drive train with a Textralia single 0700, Z06 torque tube, 3.42 rear with DTE brace, hardend axles and clutch pack.

The suspension / braking is going to be upgraded with Pfadt coil overs and sways, VBP poly busings, New rotors, calipers, pads and steel braided brake lines.

Motor is getting ported LS1 heads, ECS Cam, LS7 lifters, oil pump, Katech rod bolts, LS6 manifold and Dynotech Headers with Ti Exhaust.

Hoping for around 450 RWHP.

A manual C5 will need only...

a Vararam CAI
long tube headers and X pipe (with high flow cats or no cats at all)
tuning
possibly a better/newer clutch
drag radials or ET Street slicks
3.90 or 4.10 gears would certainly help but might not be necessary
and a good driver

...to beat a stock C6, a REALLY good driver might even be able to do it without one or two of the items listed above.

Just for thought....what if the Stock C6 shows up with tires and possibly a Vararam or other CAI (also has a tune he isn't talking about) and say's he is still basically stock....and the C5 has no gear as you mention. He might say...well you have CAI and tires so why can't I ? What will it take then ? As you can tell, I want the C5 to win.

if i showed up fully loaded heated seats air bags in seats nav bolt on only full race weight old man 275lbs he would loose

I have a 99 6spd targa car with a tune, blackwing, corsa catback, thermastat and I am hanging with my buddies automatic C6 targa car (05 LS2) and all he has is a vararam and no mufflers. he is only beating me by a fender and we are both on stock tires.

By the way, are we talking drag racing or rolling start from say 40 mph ??

The race would be from a roll and his car is stock as well and he would tell me if he had anything done. Pittman i appreciate that you have my best interest in mind but i cant do that until i sell the trans am, its paid for so i could do some damage after its gone! Until then its gonna be part by part. The best his car has ever ran in the 1/8th is 8.8, not spinning off the line. I think it would be a good race with a tune, cai, and full exhaust but i could be wrong.

45 minutes ago....

I just raced an '02 WS6 6 speed/headers while I was driving a stock '06 A6 'Vert....

He had a 3/4 car jump... by the time the auto downshifted and he was pulling...

I could hear him go through 2nd, 3rd.... and I was starting to gain by that time... he banged 4th a touch short and then let off. I was pulling pretty hard by then. I blew by him right as he was letting off....


You'll need more than headers in an even race.... My $.02

I ran pretty even with my friends '01 with full exhaust, CAI, tune and DRs when I was stock. I think I only got him by a fender.

IMO..I think it will be tough to pull him with CAI, headers and a tune..but you never know. Shifting and where you are in gear/rpm for the rolling start will make a difference also. Go for it, and lets us know how you did.

That C6 only went 8.8 in the 1/8th?....thats terrible.....my 99 z/28 m6 went 8.52 with only slp lid flowtech lt's and full catback on 18" c6s with hard *** falken high mileage road tires.....thats crazy
