Will f-body 17x9 wheels with 275/40/17 fit out back?
I tried a search without any luck. I'd like to pick up a set of f-body 17x9s for drag radials...will they fit out back on my 99 FRC?

I wouldn't see why not but if a 17" wheel is what you are wanting for a drag radial then I would probably go with a ZR1 17x11. Either wheel is gonna work good but the Zr1 would just put more rubber(315/35/17) on the ground!

I don't expect to need that much tire for what my plans are. When I get to that point Ill go to a dedicated drag wheel...im just looking for something cheap n easy right now

The C5's were designed to run a 17X11 wheel in the rear. It was styling that wanted the 18's just for the looks. The C5's will actually drop the lap times when you put on a set of 17X9.5 front and 17X11 rear in the 96 grand sport offsets.
Read the book "All Corvettes Are Red". It is detailed in there and has been proven in autocrosses across the country.
So to answer your question, no it won't need to be tubbed.

The tire compound will make more difference than the width. Which drag radial will you be running?
In my experience here they are in order of traction(least to most)
Nitto
BFG
MT ET street
Hoosier
MT ET street bias-ply
A 275 Hoosier will out grip a 335 Nitto, but will also wear out a lot quicker. It is a trade-off, so get a tire that suits your driving style.

That won't be easy but is very possible.
They are still great tires, most lean towards the M/Ts now but the BFGs still get the job done too.
