3.90s will be pretty intense with the A4. If you do a lot of tracking then maybe, but if you split time I'd say you would get better service out of 3.73s or maybe even 3.42s. If you plan on going high hp down the road you'll probably regret the 3.90s. Generally the 3.90s make more sense for the Mn6 guys. Just my 2 cents.

Here's a little spreadsheet to help you figure out what you want. I did 3.42s in my A4 coupe. 3.73s would have been ok, but for me 3.90 was way out of the question.
I had to zip it to upload it here. If you don't feel comfortable with zip files, send me your email in a PM and I'll send you the xls file.

well I put a 373 gear in my car but I also did stuff to make it hook up like q a1 and 90 10 shocks in the front so if your going to do nothing to make your car hook up better then I would keep a 3.42 gear but if your going to do some shocks and stuff like that go with a 3.90 Im fixing to go to a 3.90 and Im over 700 rwhp . The point is if your going to drag race u want to go threw the traps in 3rd in a auto about 200 rpms below the rev-limter

yea ive kinda been leaning towards the 3.73's, and i am planning on other parts to help hook up like the coil overs and all, im still kinda new to the c5 thing so not really sure the best suspension set up to go with for traction....

3.90 for track and 3.73's for track/street! 3.73's and a good torque convertor is all you need for the gearing part!!

I agree, I run3:42s with a 3500 stall and 582 RWHP. I would not go below 3:73.

with the 4000 stall, there is not a huge gain from switching gears. It will make the stall more liveable with 3.73s, but I'd hold off and put the money elsewhere for now.
